The Tom Cooke Trail is a nice trail which follows the Truckee River and a water canal. It is mostly flat, peaceful, and offers some great scenery.

Great hike for during fall through spring. Bring the pup! It’s uncovered, so I wouldn’t recommend it as much during the heat of summer. The trailhead is in a very central location for those in NW Reno.
