Punjabi Grocery & Deli serves up vegetarian curries, samosas, chai teas and more to cab drivers on break and residents looking for wallet-friendly eats without meats! the interior is very narrow, contains a ledge you can stand at and eat. the rest of the interior is taken up with various snacks lining the sides and the hot food area where you order/choose your eats. the interior is fairly clean considering the foot traffic. stopped by here wanting a quick dinner to go. there are two basic choices: 1) small rice with two veggie choices for $6 2) a large plate with three veggie choices for $8. got a large plate so i’d have leftovers. i got saag (spinach); bitter melon; and chickpeas. was pretty satisfied and the veggie curries are flavorful and filling. you can’t beat this price for vegetarian eats in the area. plus the samosas and the rotis are great side items with a large plate order. basically all the foods are in heating trays and get reheated in a microwave if you want…i opt to reheat at home bc I always order takeout not dine-in. service is friendly. waits really depend on the occasional line for food.

I’ve been going here for 25 years until today and I’ll never go back. I was waiting to order and the young man beside me who was clearly unwell started to insult me saying I was a racist. He was very paranoid and I was blocked in the back of the space. Eventually I started to cry and panic because I couldn’t get out not one male employee said or did anything to protect me. Didn’t utter a word. I was left humiliated, crying and without food. Women deserve so much better. If you can’t stand up for your female customers you won’t have any.

Chai and Samosa for just 2$ each, that also in 2022!!!!! Homely food! Super yumm and tasty! The owner is a gentleman Sikh. He has been here for 45+ years and serves really authentic Indian food at the price which is fair. Nobody no other restaurant in the whole of New York can compare the desi-ness of this restaurant.

Don’t be mistaken for the size of the Deli, it serves quite a variety of lunch dishes with rice/roti, along with other quick appetizers, sweets and snacks. I’d the Aloo tikki + channa and also tried the kheer. Everything reminded of home.

It no longer operates 24 hours after the pandemic. Though their online listings show different store hours, Google seems to have the most accurate info. (for now, anyway)
