SUPERSTAR STAFF. Wow! No one enjoys going to the DMV because the process is so overwhelming but I was met with so much patience as I filled out additional paperwork (I was expecting to be told to leave & reschedule the appointment). The staff was so friendly (especially Elaine!). I never thought I'd write a review for a DMV but this experience was so pleasant I just had to!

Waste of time. I had an appointment booked for months, was never given a clear breakdown of documents needed, and when I called for answers never could reach an actual person to talk to. I wasted a day off just to be dismissed by the woman at the first desk who was rude because I let her know the listing of documents needed online is incorrect and unclear. There are multiple reviews on here regarding the lack of clarity on what paperwork is needed. Many customers have to come back multiple times because of the confusion. Terrible experience, rude staff and they make you feel terrible for an understandable confusion. Will not return.

These DMV employees are doing an awesome job. If you come prepared, the process they have put together works quickly and efficiently. Such a contrast to long waits and often confusion of past years!
Yes, but you can also do it online and save time. just make sure your address is the same as your old one and theyll mail it to you in a couple weeks. if your address has changed, do an address change on it first then renew the license. takes longer but you can do both online.
I moved from California to Rhode Island. Can i do my car registration and driving license transfer at Woonsocket DMV?

Richard Soroka | Sep 23, 2019
Yes in fact Woonsocket is a better choice than Cranston. If you are an early bird, get there before 8am and you'll be out before 9. Make sure you have all the necessary documents; registration form, title, proof of insurance, that should be all for a transfer to a RI plate. A second form will do for your license and your California license
How much does it cost to change and update information on your license, such as the last name due to a recent marriage and address?

Beth Grant | Oct 27, 2021
First, you need to take a copy of your birth certificate and marriage certificate and existing license to the Social Security office (they have multiple locations) and get a new Social Security Card with your new last name. Legal Requirements: Name change must be done with Social Security first. It will take 24 hours for changes at Social Security to become effective for the DMV to process your transaction. Then you take the same documents plus the new Social Security Card (you will receive in the mail, or wait at least 2 days for it to be processed electronically) and take to the DMV to get a new license with your new last name. Fill out form LI-1 for the DMV (can be found on their website dmv.ri.gov. I believe SS card was $25, and new license is $27.50 for regular or real ID.

I believe you need an appointment for anything you want to do.
You need to go online to the DMV and find what location you want then make sure there are green boxes in the calendar and pick your time. Also make sure you have all the documents you may need
Does Woonsocket DMV RI provide clearence letters to people who have paid a traffic ticket that was overdue and gave them a default on their license? Clearence letter is needed to bring proof to the state in which driver is registered.

No they do not. The person has to go to Cranston dmv to get the clearance letter from adjudication. You have to go online and make an appt to be seen there www.ri.gov/dmv

Ok so they suspended my license .. can I give my car to my boyfriend and have him register it under his name ?
Lucy Garcia | Sep 23, 2018
Carl Carlson | Sep 23, 2018
You can sell it to your boyfriend not give it to him because he isn't family.
Then you have to turn in your plates and he then can register it, but you will need the title signed over to him and he has to have proof of insurance before he can register it
It's a VIN inspection to make sure the car doesn't have any history on it, like maybe stolen, if the VIN is wrong to what the car actually is there's a problem and it will have to be corrected
I recently moved from MA, to RI.
What do I need to bring with me, to the DMV, to get a RI driver's license and RI plate?
Jay Cloutier | Sep 23, 2018
Carl Carlson | Sep 23, 2018
You need to bring your license from Mass, your title, have a VIN inspection at one of the police departments, proof of insurance, proof of residency, have everything that needs to be notarized done and your check book
If you're switching one to another purchased in RI. Then sales tax 7% of the cost of the car and then between $30 (1 yr) and $65 (2 yr). The computer selects. If you don't have the previous registration of the car you purchased, tack on another $15 registration search fee.
You need your title, have a VIN inspection down the street from the DMV, $20.00, proof of insurance, title notarized insurance notarized and check book with you Also Proof Of Residency
You need the proper paperwork filled out and signed off by at least one doctor to prove that you are permanently disabled to get a license plate.
The other way to go if you are not permanently disabled is to get a mirror tag but you still have to have your doctor sign the proper paperwork which you can get at the DMV
