We just adopted three shih tzus from this rescue. Yes, Harriet took her time, calling our references, calling our veterinarians, etc., before approving our application. I think this is admirable - that she does what is necessary to ensure that the animal will be going to a safe forever home with a responsible owner. We couldn't be happier with the process, the organization, and our new fur babies.

I volunteered for this rescue years ago and i am sorry to see they are still in business. Yes, they vet all the dogs, feed and keep the kennels clean, but these dogs are hardly ever adopted out because they feel that nobody is worthy of adopting them. I feel very sorry for the larger dogs who need exercise, but instead are cooped up in their kennel all day without hardly and human interaction.

Wow I have never got a dog from these people but was really looking for a shihtzu, but by the sounds of this place they need to be shut down , I have never heard of a rescue not trying to get the dogs happy homes I don’t live in Florida but if I did they’d be shut down by now !!!!

This owner(Harriet) is a bizarre soul-she puts other dog people down discredits others in the industry, is a very unprofessional person-does not return calls and is impossible to do business with-my understanding is that her adoptable dogs are very difficult which is why they were put up for adoption in the first place! Buyer Beware!

I seriously doubt they are being investigated because they are very careful about finding the right homes for their dogs.
I've had the same issue. Have you gotten any response since you posted this?
AGREE 100%
Honestly, I think they do that to then say -oh your application was denied because you have kids and that dog you wanted doenst like kids. If you say you work from home, then they will say the dog you want needs an active life. If you say you have a fenced yard, then they will say the dog you want needs alot of room to run around. no matter what you say, they will tell you the dog you wanted is not a match for you.
I have adopted two dogs from here and speak with the owner regularly. Several years ago I volunteered there. Friends of ours have adopted a pet within the last few months. This is a very dog friendly couple who house, support, and look for homes for many abandoned pets. (there were approx 80 there last time I was physically on site, a few years ago). They are very worthy of donations to help them care for the animals they rescue. The only understandable complaint I have ever heard is their staff is is too small to respond to all calls and messages they receive.
I never got an answer
Agreed... sent applications in two different times, never a word back. When I called, I got the same answer you did, in a tone that indicated she was annoyed that I had called. I later found a pair of sisters at the Humane Society on Griffin. They are the loves of my life, and I am thankful I stopped waiting for a response from these folks.
I don't know, but you can reach them at 954-680-6456. Good luck! :)
