i shouldn’t be surprised by a rescue. my mom and i have been wanting a kitten for a few months now. due to my ELEVEN year old HEALTHY show dog (who is a CHAMPION in the american kennel club) not being neutered, they denied my application. the owner apparently won’t change her views on animals that aren’t fixed. if my dog is HEALTHY why should i have to remove his anatomy? they also need to fix their view on breeders. there are good REPUTABLE breeders out there. my grandparents for one. breeding for YEARS with perfectly healthy puppies and happy families. my mom and i have taken in rescues and fosters FOR a rescue when we lived in florida. so disappointed with this rescue and their views.

Just brought our new dog Sammy home from BATS on 7/17/22 and our experience adopting from this rescue was nothing short of wonderful. My past experience with other animal rescues were shaky at best- often I would see a dog online and inquire but the dog was already adopted, or I would put an application in and get called to come meet the dog, but because I couldn't drop what I was doing and come in at that exact moment the dog went to the next available person. So when I applied at BATS I didn't expect much but I was so pleasantly surprised. I applied online for a couple of different dogs, and within a day or two my personal references told me they had been called. I assume they also spoke with my landlords and my vet, and they then called me to see when I could come meet a specific dog they had in mind. I believe they take the information on your application and match you to a dog that they think is a good fit, which is great! My fiancé and I were paired with a dog who was sweet but VERY frightened of people, so BATS had us come twice to meet with the dog and then a third time to meet the dog with our dog present. They let me know from the beginning that there were other people being considered for this baby, but I never felt strung along- after the second meeting they made it clear that we were at the top of the list. They also told me that had we not been selected, they would've shown us other dogs that would've been a good fit. I don't know if three meet and greet visits is standard for all their animals or if it was just the protocol for my guy because he was such a nervous baby, but regardless we didn't mind at all. There was also a virtual home visit which was fairly painless- I was nervous because I live in an apartment which I thought would count against me but BATS just wants to ensure the home and yard are safe. The day we came to pick up our boy, we were given a folder with medical information, and microchip information. We were given a goody bag filled with treats, toys, and a bag of the food the dog was eating so we could transition him slowly to the food we had. So thoughtful. But what struck me most of all is several of the shelter workers came to see the dog off, and asked to exchange phone numbers with me in hopes of hearing about the dog's progress. One woman actually gave me a little gift and a beautiful heartfelt card about what a good dog he is and how happy they all are to see him go to a good home. It was heartwarming! TL;DR: as the other reviews mention, yes its a process to be approved but I personally think that's a great thing. It is CLEAR that this shelter is deeply committed to the welfare of their animals and wants to ensure they go to the perfect home- how can anyone be mad at that? Yes, the adoption fee is on the higher side- but it really isn't when you consider that its covering neutering, vaccines, microchip. Also, most of the shelter workers are volunteers. Considering all that, and considering that a good dog is absolutely PRICELESS, I was happy to pay what they asked. Thank you Bobbi & all the volunteers and workers for being such caring people and for such a wonderful adoption experience!!

Best would be to contact shelter directly.
You can volunteer with cats. You need to be 18 to volunteer with dogs.
You need to give them a call to see what is available. But I'm sure they can find you an older dog that needs a home. And also would be a good match of what you're looking for.
Look for local shelters, most of which would love to help. Cant give any specific locations because ei do not know the town you live in, but north shore animal league is a great organization to look at.
Cove animal rescue this is address 40 shore rd Glen cove NY 11542
My condolences...No they do not its a nonprofit rescue shelter. Please call yours or look for a veterinarian- Only they offer those services. If you google it there are also veterinarians that will come to your house and euthanize and then take care of cremation.
You can adopt you pay an adoption fee & for shots
Come down to the office any day but wednesday with a parent and fill out a volunteer application. Theres an orientation group to attend-check with the office :)
Into the meet and greet ask for staff they will sign you in
No, they never kill the animals they take in. They have a place to stay for life if no one adopts them.
You cannot just walk around and look at dogs. They pair you with a volunteer who will pick out dogs for you for 1 on 1 meetings
Yes. Im sure any donation possible would be beneficial to them. I know they accept all blankets, towels, sheets, etc. Anything to made beds more comfortable.
Yes u need an orientation 1st
If you want to surrender a pitbull I recommend you call them to ask if you can bring the dog to meet them there at Bobbie and the Strays
Call the town of Hempstead they will help you
As most of the shelters are full right now, id suggest taking really cute pictures of kitten being handled and posting on social media anywhere you can! If you are looking to 'give' (surrender) kitten to a shelter or rescue for Them to try and adopt, id suggest any No Kill Rescue, like Bobbis or Last Hope in Wantagh. If you are looking to surrender, please call after 10am. Town of Hempstead Animal Sheter is also right next to Last Hope in Wantagh, but as mentioned before- all places are Full. Town of Hempstead is Not a No Kill, but they Try their hardest to get everyone a forever home.

I'm not sure about it but u may call them they will assist u
This shelter has cats and dogs. No bunnies. Sorry. I think I've seen them at Pet Smart and/or Petco. I would check there.
Come down with a Parent/Gaurdian any day but wednesday and fill out a volunteer form in the Office. They'll help sign you guys up for Volunteer Orientation
To volunteer with the dogs you must be over 18. Under 15 you must be accompanied by an adult but can only volunteer with cats
Try calling them?
Baldwin Animal hospital is highly rated with great surgeons
They do but call first
Scratching post and use double sided tape where they scratch. They here that sticky feeling and will stay away.
Call up the place and see if they have a male cat that would be perfect for you available. ..or you can always go to the shelter Mineth.😊
Bobbi is NOT only cats, Google them & give them a call.
