My husband and I had an amazing time thanks to the Whale's Tail guide! He was full of all sorts of fascinating information and we were able to see several different whales while we were out. The boats are small but not overcrowded, they're perfect for when the whales come up near you! We definitely plan to return again!

We enjoyed our time with Whales Tail Charters. There was a little bit of concern when we saw the size of the boat we were going out to sea in, but it turned out to be perfect. Our captain got us close to the whale we found and a good time was had by all.

We had so much fun going out and seeing the whales. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The boat was a little crowded but a very nice boat. And we did see a handful of whales. Very nice trip!

We did a tour back in August and it was the perfect day - fog cleared out in the bay and we saw whales almost immediately. Our guide told us about whales, sea lions, sea birds, and had lots of cool stories to share. I really liked that our boat was small and there were only 2 other people with us. I highly recommend Whale's Tail!!Thank you Bridget, take care.

We have plenty of availability in April. The gray whale migration should still be going on, then we get our resident whales in June. As far as orca's go it's kind of a hit or miss, there is a transit pod that moves up and down the coast at that time of year. You are always welcome to call us (541.921.1323) to check on sightings and the ocean conditions.
During November ocean conditions can be a factor, we often have large swells and windy conditions. Whales will be migrating but they can be difficult to find and are usually further off shore. In November small groups of gray whales start a two to three month 5,000 – 6,800 mile trip south. By late December to early January, they begin to arrive in the calving lagoons of Baja. The best time to see whales here in Depoe Bay is June through September. This is when our resident whales have returned and taken up residence. As summer approaches we see more of our resident gray whales arrive.
From June through September we have our resident gray whales. This is the best time to see gray whales. They are right next to shore feeding (within 1/2 mile) and stay off Depoe Bay for months at a time. These whales do not make the trip to Alaska and make the Oregon coast their feeding area. These whales are also known as the Pacific Coast Feeding Group. These gray whales move about and feed off the Oregon coast during the summer and fall months. They are still migratory animals, but this group makes a shorter migration route as long as they find adequate food sources.
$30/ Person for an hour, $40/person for 90 minutes. Best money you'll spend on the coast!
From what the captain told us when we went around early summer is the best time to whale watch. Just keep in contact with them to know about the weather and the wind. My family and I went about 2 weeks ago and the weather was perfect and we saw quite a few whales. Just call ahead of time to reserve your spots since they are limited on space on the boat. Most definitely worth the money and the time!!!
June is usually a pretty good time for whale watching. Our boats are Zodiac RHIB, 1 is 26ft and 1 is 28ft. There are photos of the boats on our website at https://whalestaildepoebay.com/ If you have any questions don't hesitate to call 541. 921.1323
Yes, September is a great month for whales and nice ocean conditions.
Hi Renee, Yes, we start our tours in March and operate through September. Right now May is pretty much wide open for bookings. https://www.whalestaildepoebay.com/
Hi Eva, At this time we are conducting maintenance on our boats and won't be operating until sometime in March.
We abide by all marine mammal protection laws and stay the required 100 yards away from the whales, after that, it’s up to the whale. Often times they get curious and friendly and approach the boat. During this time of the year ocean conditions can be a factor, you have to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions. High temperatures average between 50°-60° and rain can be a possibility. While the typical forecast may be overcast and showery, we often experience beautiful clear days that are sometimes very warm. The ocean conditions can be really nice or very rough with high seas and strong winds. One thing to keep in mind, some of the best whale watching in Depoe Bay is from June through October. Some gray whales do not continue on to Alaskan waters but stay off the coast of Depoe Bay during the summer months. This is when our resident whales have returned and taken up residence. As summer approaches we see more and more of our resident gray whales show up.
Our trip was very informative and enjoyable.
I would recommend as soon as you know the date and time you would like to go. If you have any questions feel free to call us at 541.921.1323
Yes we will be doing tours on Labor Day. We operate through the month of September.

We have availability on July 15th at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. It's $30 for 1 hour and $40 for 1 1/12 hour.
Hi Tom, A lot of times the whales are in the bay, but they do more around a lot searching for food. The gray whale's stay close to shore usually 1/2 mile or less.
As of now we don't offer any promo or discounts do to the limited seating capacity 2-6 people.
Hi Shantel, We received your reservation for April 7. It's better to reserve as it gets very busy during this time. Thanks for booking with us and will see you on the 7th, take care.
