An injured individual has a specified amount of time within which they must file a lawsuit to preserve their claim. In New Jersey, an injured party must file a lawsuit within two years of being injured, although there are exceptions to the rule. In response to your question, there is no right answer. A lawsuit can be resolved at any time after its institution. The duration of an action is effected by many variables and thus there is no right answer to that question.
