My son attended summer camp this year. I must say that I’m so happy that I found this facility. The staff is amazing and I know my son is safe. There summer camp program has been the best experience for my family. We will be back next year.

my 12 year old son is a paid member of the YMCA and he decided that he wanted to attend camp. I found that the location Hopemills, nc had openings therefore I enrolled my son in Summer Camp. I paid the $10.00 hold fee for the entire summer camp and 2 weeks upfront. I used different credit cards and requested and informed the staff that I would be using different cards for the payment of $124.00 per week. I was informed that every Thursday before 9pm close I could come down and provide the card of choice for payment. After this was agreed we were told that the first day of Camp would be on May 31, 2021 Labor Day. Drop off time from 7-8 am. On May 31, 2021 I brought my son to the YMCA and it was closed. No problem I guess since it was a federal holiday and the YMCA already had my money. I think that was very unprofessional there was a line of parents and their children outside of a closed YMCA. Last Monday I dropped my son off at the ymca around 7:30 am around 12;00 pm I received a text saying that my sons weekly payment was due ASAP and he could not return to camp if payment was not made. I then informed the text person that I would be down to make payment and I would be requesting if needed advanced notice, a simple request to keep morale.. At that time, the text person chose to go on and on about the contract and that I was obligated to pay etc.. At that time I explained that I was only asking for a professional courtesy, saying nothing about not paying. I was currently on a job and this individual kept the back and forth, as I guess to re-educate me because I forgot the payment date. At that time I confirmed with my sister who also has my nieces at the summer camp. I then received from a email from a ( Rakia Epps )this individual claim to be a supervisor for this location. After dialogue with this person I choose to come in and get my son and find out what the problem exactly was with these individuals. I stated that in my email. When I arrived at the location no one was there to explain or talk with me, so I took my son home. The following week I had a doctors appointment while at the Doctor I was contacted and harassed about owing $250.00 for my son not coming to camp. Prior to this a staff member had called my phone to inform me of a bag lunch that my son would need for a trip, and I had informed that individual that, my son would not be coming back until the following week. Now after all of this (Rakia Epps) was telling me that, this was not acceptable and that I owed money for not receiving services. So, as you can see, its a pattern here, of unprofessional conduct and a lack of respect for the members, or at least this member. Clearly their understanding is not a strong point and neither is their people skills. It's as if these individuals have contempt for the members or at least for me as a Member, which is a mystery to me. Now, if the staff have no resolve for its members, why would I continue to entrust my child with these people? I chose not to trust individuals like this. The YMCA is suppose to be a family environment, however not this location. Its obvious that its all about the money with these people, and while I understand the money aspect these individuals gave me a horrible experience. My recommendation is that, you steer clear of this location for these reason, or until such a time that, there is a change in staff, protocol and or how they treat the members. that's my review because the people need to know. Power to the people. James
