I wish I could give it no stars. I was in a horrific car accident and spent 5 months total in three different hospitals. Select Specialty was by far the worst of them. I was literally terrified of dying there and scared of some of the staff retaliating whenever I would bring concerns to management. The CNO was very kind and would always listen to my concerns and take them seriously but the culture of the facility is horrible. The majority of the staff is rude and rough to say the least with the patients. I had a very select few I would want to take care of me. If you have other options take them but I beg of you to make sure your loved one can advocate for their well being in your absence because they will have to do so! As a nurse I knew the things going on were wrong and I said so. It is a horrible place….just horrible!

No stars Take the trash out Select Specialty in Durham. My brother came in as a new patient. He was only in there a day and half and "went into cardiac arrest from repositioning". The some of the staff was disrespectful and hateful. They hate to see family come and asks questions. Once 7:50 pm their calling the room and knocking on the door to let you know visiting hours are almost up. No telling what the do/don't after family leaves that place. One CNA was so sweet never got her name. She had another CNA helped her to get my brother cleaned up in bed never got her name neither SMH! Paul day shift nurse was professional. Day time unit secretory was so sweet. I'm thankful for these people only!!! The other staff Night time Charge nurse, Respiratory therapy on night shift did not want to take time to answer questions or listen. I hate this place. They almost killed him. Don't let your loved one go there! Duke Regional took care of him. Thank God!

This place is the worst facility my family member had to ever go to and through. Sure there where nice staff members here and there but the care taking was absolutely poor. It only got better as we he was about to leave and they knew how upset we where. The only person that communicated and advocated the hardest was our social work, but everyone else was just there for a paycheck. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVE ONE HERE!!! The conditions where poor and the staff was lazy.

During my stay at Select Specialty, I was treated with respect. There are some good staff members. If you had a problem, they took care of it. Thank you

On the East coast of the U.S. about half way between N.Y. and Florida
It is a long-term acute care facility, people generally transfer there from an ICU or step down acute care to stay there about 30 or 40 days before discharging home or to a nursing home. It is not a nursing home though, if that is what you're asking.
