I requested a quote for lumber to build a fence from Viking and was given a quote for grade 1 cedar. After talking back and forth we adjusted some of the quantities on the quote and came to a agreement. Unbeknownst to me, on the second quote the 2x4s were changed to grade 3 cedar (which means you are buying as-is). This was never mentioned to me and I was charged the same price as the previous quote, the only way to tell the difference was the change of a 1 to a 3 on the quote. Their excuse was they gave me a higher grade of lumber, but if I can't return it, it doesn't seem to be better to me. I paid for delivery and they guy who delivered said they would exchange anything with more than a 2-inch crack, so I made the mistake of not inspecting every board as it was unloaded. Otherwise, delivery was smooth and he did a good job unloading the material. After I had built most of the fence, I contacted Viking to replace the boards that were cracked or otherwise unusable. This is where I was told on the planks, they allow for 5% exchange and no returns on the cedar since it was grade 3. I had about 10% of the wood that was unable. After a few emails back and forth, the GM agreed to exchange the wood and told me he would have his guys pull the wood. I drove an hour to Garland and once there, the people in the yard started telling me they can't exchange the 2x4s because they are grade 3 and were all around rude. I showed them the email from the GM and I had to unload all the maternal then wait for them to find the new wood and also had to load it all myself. In the end I have a nice-looking fence, but I would buy the wood from a different company in the future.
