The Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook has a truly spectacular view of Sandy Hook, Raritan Bay and the New York skyline. There are coin operated viewers to get a closer look. You can also sit and relax on the benches and watch the passing ships. This 12-acre site is also a Memorial dedicated to the 147 men and women of Monmouth County who lost their lives on Sept. 11th. The path leading to the memorial is a timeline of the events of Sept. 11th. The eagle is holding a beam from the World Trade Center. Fun Fact: There is also a playground for the little ones.

Nice peaceful place to sit and watch ships go by.. not as high though as we'd thought but this place has its history, read the information boards posted there... There's also a 9/11 memorial with a timeline of events as they unfolded that day that you can read as you walk up the pathway.. come here to relax and sit for a bit.. you can even visit the near by Sandy Hook area from here..

Beautiful memorial park. Thank you Parks Dept.and everyone else who made the memorial. The twin lights that shine to heaven for 9/11 are amazing!

Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, Atlantic Highlands, N.J. Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook in Atlantic Highlands is a small park with a 9/11 Memorial that tastefully honors the 147 Monmouth County residents who have fallen on that faithful day 9-11-2001. Personally, I love that you can sit and reflect, or it can be used as an awesome teaching moment for parents & teachers. You will be amazed by how well put together & how tastefully done this tribute is. There is even a piece of the World Trade Center attached to the Eagle's talons! The base of the monument list the towns of Monmouth County and the names of the fallen residents. There is a 9/11 Memorial Timeline representing the 3 hour time span of that tragic day, as well as many other amazing design elements. This park is beautiful & a must see! During the warmer months, you can bring a lunch with you and enjoy the stunning views. At 266', it’s the highest natural point on the Atlantic Seaboard, from Maine to Mexico. The views of the Sandy Hook Bay & New York skyline are amazing. Some of the best views of the Atlantic Ocean! Check out some of the views from my pictures. Bring your own binoculars or for .25 cents use the built in binoculars for a closer view. If stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean weren’t enough, there is a small playground, plenty of seating, and portable restrooms. There are also 3 informational boards telling you all about: the Raritan Bay & New York Harbor, the View from Mount Mitchill, and the Longshore Sediment Movement Pros: Everything mentioned above +++ Excellent tribute to the fallen of 9/11. Cons: Small parking area that could fill up quickly on a beautiful day. ** Keep in mind I took my pictures in January 2021 & the views are still amazing. Now imagine them during the other months! ps.
