Destiny gave my partner and I inaccurate info about family planning medicaid. He went up there TWICE in 1 day and she insisted he was wrong, but then send him a letter a week later saying he was right. Well, now he can't apply because we only have Mondays off and it's a holiday weekend. Her ignorance has interfered with him getting a medical procedure complete. Learn how to do your job and stop giving out info if your aren't sure its correct!

This place is completely disorganized. I wanted to find out more information about getting some of my retinal eye surgery subsidized because my job does not offer benefits and I am not able to get Medicaid. There is a specific program ran by the state of North Carolina called the Medical Eye Program that offers some money towards eye surgery if one is unable to pay all upfront costs and the surgery is deemed absolutely necessary. Every DSS department in NC should have a representative who knows about this program and is able to assist people with this, yet Lincoln county failed me. Firstly the individual who answered the phone had a bad attitude and was rude and said “she didn’t know anything about it”. Then she connected me with the Medicaid department and this worker went on to tell me the person who gave me the information (who has been a retinal eye doctor for over 20 years) must have been mistaken because she had never heard of such a thing and they only way she could help me is if I became blinded and wanted to file for Medicaid. I told her the program wasn’t part of Medicaid and she continued to just tell me The only way I could get help is if I was pregnant or disabled. Although she offered to consult her supervisor the whole interaction just seemed condescending and like she was just there to get a check. I then contacted the office manager of the retinal specialist to confirm the information about the medical eye program and she backed up the doctors information and gave me a direct number to the representative at the Gaston County DSS. I eventually found out the individual who is the representative for Lincoln county had retired earlier in the year and they were trying to get a replacement. The representative from Gaston County was able to help me because it is a State funded initiative and not county by county. I was fortunate that this was the case because it was slim to none finding someone in Lincolnton that was willing to help me. My question is although this individual was retired why did no one I talked to know about him in the first place? I understand there are different departments, but shouldn’t someone in Medicaid know about this big of a resource? Isn’t that a responsibility of your job to help those in the community find resources they need? Dealing with them was so frustrating and I feel like they didn’t even care to help me at all. I am incredibly sorry for anyone who is in need of help having to go here because what they provide is far from social services to the community members who need it.

I'm pretty sure you have to go down there and fill out the application. Because after you apply for medicaid they will sign you a caseworker and the caseworker has to sit down and talk to you. Hope this helps answering your question
