I would plan a visit when rain is not in the forecast. Conditions can change here quick. No fee to view the falls from the observation point at the top but you have to purchase a permit to go to the bottom of the falls. They allow so many permits per day. You have to watch a short video at the welcome center before walking to the fall. The trail winds down through the beautiful wooded canyon to the creek. You walk up stream about .5ml to reach the falls. Plan on getting your feet wet. Wear good gripping shoes for the rocks are slippery especially at the falls. I'd recommend taking a backpack to carry your belongings as to leave your hands free to climb over rocks and wade the creek. Be cautious how you step as we saw a few people slip and fall and there is no easy way back to the top. They did have a few Rangers at the fall bottom to oversee and help keep an eye on people. No alcohol or glass containers allowed. No bathrooms at the falls bottom and the parking lot fills up quick. They have a small gift shop with shirts, cups, hats, walking sticks, kids toys, books, honey, ice cream freezer and drinks. They also have a RV campground that looks nice.

Amazing place for hiking, beautiful view, highly recommended for summer, totally free, large parking area and nice and clean restroom available

Great place for nature walk. Paths maintained. Can wait for spring to take the gorge trail to base of waterfall.

Very nice hike. Did not hike to the bottom of the falls since you need a permit and cross river. Will definitely comeback in the summer to hike to the bottom

Yes, and round trip is 3.2 miles on foot. Terrain is definitely steep but trails are nicely kept. Have good water shoes that cover your toes preferably.
I didnt see any when i was there last summer.
It's right basically outside of Cookeville, I can drive from TN Tech and be there in 15min. So there are hotels and motels around Cookeville. Also we are so close to many other State Parks...exp. Edgar Evins State Park which has camping, cabins/condos to rent and sits on Center Hill Lake. Maybe a 20min to 30min drive to Cummins Falls.
It is about a mile hike, but worth it! Make sure you have reliable hiking shoes on that you don't mind getting wet. You will have to wade through the river at times. Flip-flops are not appropriate for this hike.
