Natural wonder
I am a sushi chef of 15 years that live and work in Saint Petersburg, so I really know what's good when it comes to fresh fish and Japanese cuisine. It's not often for me to go out and eat sushi on my time off. But when I do, I'd have to drive to Orlando. Because sushi places around town just have the same boring fish that you see at almost every sushi restaurants. After I was introduced to Umu and have eaten there, my drive just gotten shorter. No more that I need to drive to Orlando for premium fish and fancy Japanese cuisine. So if you're tired of the same boring fish at your neighborhood's sushi bar, give Umu a try and you won't be disappointed.

Coming from a man who has been to a plethora of sushi places in the Tampa area, I must say that my experiences at UMU are unmatched. I have visited this restaurant a couple of times before the remodel and it was very good. I questioned, why alter something that is already elite. Just as I thought the place had already reached it’s peak, it took a quantum leap into dimension that I thought could not be achieved. From the interior design to the presentation and the friendly service and turn around time I could not be more impressed. I started off with the Prime Steak Tataki and then I conquered the Sea Master specialty roll and let me tell you the roll really knew how to tantalize the taste buds. Writing this review helped me decide my dinner plans. Thanks UMU.

I was so happy when I found this place a few months ago. It became my favorite sushi place from my first visit there. It was my birthday a few weeks ago and UMU was definitely the place I picked to go to. Sadly it turned out to be the most disappointing eating out experience I have ever had. This is no understatement. I have had much better meals at far less expected places where the bill was half the price. In order to keep this short, I will focus on the biggest problem which was the food. All the items we specifically went there for were no longer on the menu, some which were very basic such as "shrimp tempura roll" AND it could not be accommodated? Like, really? And for the new additions to the menu, it was terrible. We couldn't even eat it because it was so fishy and simply not pleasant. Specifically the blue crab, which is on almost every specialty sushi roll. Service was absolutely awful but I won't even go into it because maybe the server was just having a bad day. But the food? Well, we paid for overpriced food that we did not eat because it was that bad. Did anyone care there that night? No. Unfortunately I gotta find another favorite sushi place in the Wesley Chapel area.

The new menu is not so good as the old menu. The old menu was better. The old menus food was better also and cheaper. The staff was not so good either and kind of rude. So bad over priced food with rude staff. Will not be coming back!

I picked up food. The staff were wearing masks and/or face shields, but those dining in were not 👀
I'm pretty sure they are
Table service, full, sit-down restaurant. There is a bar area where you can sit for more casual dining. Servers do bring your food and drinks.
