We've gotten two of our dogs from Dog Star Rescue. Dog Star is truly one of the best dog rescues in the area. They are extremely organized and function like a well-oiled machine. You can tell that they truly care and love dogs, and have dog's best interests at heart. Yes, they have a very thorough and detailed application / adoption process, but this is just because they want to place dogs in the best home possible. All of their volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. They are a 100% volunteer based rescue which is pretty amazing and just goes to show you how dedicated their volunteers are! I've seen Dog Star take in dogs with medical issues, senior dogs, dogs that other rescues may have turned away, and find them amazing forever homes. They've even taken dogs with some behavioral issues and really worked with these dogs to help them overcome their issues and get them adopted. I really could go on and on with how amazing I think this rescue is!

We got our dog Sophie from Dog Star Rescue and I cannot recommend them more highly. She's a cherished family member and our experience was wonderful!

This was our second experience with this org. The first experience was wonderful, the second was awful. The adoption process was badly handled. Instead of calling me, as I had asked them to in my emails with the application screener, she felt the need to pass me off to another screener who then told me that we could not be considered for adoption because of being behind on wellness visits and heart worm prevention for our dogs. Had they called me, as I had politely asked, I would have told them the entire reasoning why. Instead, I had to ask multiple times for a phone call. The lead adoption screener called me, but only after I had asked multiple times for someone to do so, and proceeded to accuse me of being a bad dog owner without openly accusing me of being one. It was a very rude, condescending, and horrible, belittling conversation from her. I would never deal with this place again or refer anyone to them ever again. Very rude and unprofessional. It's a shame because the dogs are wonderful and so are a majority of the volunteers, but the people in charge are miserable and rude. And their response below is ridiculous. How they handled the whole experience was extremely rude and disrespectful. I was passed off from one person to the next without so much as a phone call. I was made to feel like a bad dog owner. Then the woman had the nerve to tell me she never said that. Yeah, not in so many words. They cry that the shelters are full then turn away good owners who have loving homes simply because they weren’t able to take their dog for a yearly wellness visit or keep them on unnecessary heart worm medication. Awful organization. Stay away.

Friends recommended Dog Star Rescue to us and we couldn’t be happier with our sweet Sookie, who came to us in October of 2020. She has brightened up our lives every day since! The Dog Star folks are knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Don’t shop—adopt!

Having a partial fence is not a deal breaker. We do like to know that dogs are always leashed and not left outside alone. Thanks for asking

Hi , are the dogs free ? I’m confused !

No, there's an adoption fee. They have an application process - when you're app is approved, you can apply to adopt a specific pup & go through the screening process, or go to an adoption event & potentially take a pup home that day.
