We went to MASS MoCA and saw the exhibit of beautiful art by Marc Swanson so that was our introduction to Thomas Cole. Honestly hasn’t heard of either artists but so glad we looked up Thomas Cole and came to the house mainly to see Marc Swanson. Very interesting life that was very short. The tour was lovely but I would have loved hearing a more solid connection and background about why it makes sense to have Marc Swanson at Thomas Cole - in case you don’t get it yourself, my understanding is that both artists are keenly aware of the influence humans are having on the landscape. Nicely interactive display with letters you can read. Overall brought the whole house to life.

A fantastic museum for lovers of landscape art and historic houses. Highly recommended.

Beware. If you want to see the house, please make reservations ahead of time

Very informative guided tour. Learned a lot about Cole's art in the context of his life and times. And from the front porch you can see a view he painted many times.

Thank you for your interest in the "Cross Pollination" exhibition! Admission to the Thomas Cole Site does not give you admission to Olana; you will need to book separate tickets from their website. Paintings by Martin Johnson Heade in the "Cross Pollination" exhibition are on view at both the Thomas Cole Site and Olana, including "The Gems of Brazil." You can explore Cross Pollination ticket options at hudsonriverskywalk.org/crosspollination.
Thank you for your interest in visiting the Thomas Cole National Historic Site! Right now, advance reservations for Outdoor Guided Tours can be found at https://thomascole.org/purchase-your-ticket-ahead-of-time/ . This experience includes access to Thomas Cole's Old Studio, which is located in the same building as the Visitor's Center. Access to the Main House and New Studio will be available in June, along with the collaborative exhibition "Cross Pollination"!
Our grounds are open daily for free from dawn to dusk! You can park your car for free in the adjacent lot that we share with our neighbors, Temple Israel.
The installation of the elevator in the Main House is underway and nearly complete! The Visitor Center, Old Studio, and New Studio buildings are all handicap accessible. The paths within the historic grounds are gravel.
Hi Evelyn, Thank you for your interest in the site! The Visitor Center, Thomas Cole's Old Studio, and the New Studio buildings are all wheel chair accessible. The Main House is currently not wheel chair accessible. We are in the planning phases of installing an elevator in the Main House. You can find more information about accessibility here: https://thomascole.org/accessibility/. Thank you!
Was there in July and the process were very reasonable and if under 16 free.
Don't know anything about the Senior Pass but I'm sure the only way to see the house is with the guided tour which is well worth it. The docents are fascinating and you will miss a lot of very interesting information if you don't do the tour.
Dear Laura, I am afraid there are not. Thank you for your inquiry. Best, TCNHS
