Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Nice federal wildlife refuge. Access road is off route 1 in Woodbridge. Plenty of parking at the park entrance and very few people at the park. There are several trails leading to the Bay and Potomac. Water views are amazing. There are few benches here and there close to the water. Note no trash cans except at the park entrance and no vending machines so bring your drinks and food beforehand. Nice place to come to chill with waterview and watch birds. Note one needs to walk at least half a mile from park entrance to get to waterview spot so bring comfy shoes and water etc.

Mostly wide gravel paths, and easy walking. Lots of bird watchers frequent.

My favorite Woodbridge nature gem! Thanks to many years of conservation efforts there are so many animals here to see, from rabbits to turtles, osprey, eagles (mid spring), and turkeys! Exceptional refuge with plenty of trails and scenic views.

Very spacious area for bird watching, wildlife viewing, or just going for a bike ride or a walk. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice this place was. It was free to enter, there was plenty of parking, bathrooms, a picnic shelter, maps, and wide trails. There is also a visitor center in the works, which me and my grandma saw from a distance, so I'll be excited to visit again when it's finished.
