Love this place! Thankfully we have trails in Jacksonville ☺️ We visited June 20 no bugs. Walked little over 1.62 miles

Great hiking spot. The trails are well kept and defined. Bugs were not bad. A decent amount of variety in the trails. Good shade. Good views. Rest room at the parking area at the beginning of the trail.

I was able to pick up maps and speak to a Ranger. She was able to tell me what spots were good for my mom.

Can you fish?

To add to what the above commenters have said, it's a tidal marsh. So mostly just mud flats with channels that fill with water at high tide. I can't imagine there's a whole lot of fish worth the trek to get it there and the fight you'll have with the mud once you've arrived.

The Theodore Roosevelt Area offers visitors the chance to enjoy the solitude of wilderness within the confines of a large metropolitan area. A lot of “Old Florida” has disappeared. William Henry Browne III lived on the land that is today known as the Theodore Roosevelt Area. Willie spent his whole life here, and the foundations of his cabin stand as a testament to the gift he gave to future visitors. Willie gave his property to the Nature Conservancy for preservation. In 1990, this land became a part of the National Park Service. In 1969 Willie Browne donated all his land to The Nature Conservancy with the stipulation that it or any future owner would keep the land in its natural state. Willie requested that the property be named for his hero, former president Theodore Roosevelt. https://www.nps.gov/timu/learn/historyculture/tra_nature_history.htm
