If you mean coursed and uncoursed rubble masonry. Here is the explanation. Stones are arranged horizontally in Coursed Rubble masonry, i.e. in a course. Thus, coursed rubble masonry gets its name. As for the facings of the stones, they are hammered to produce a straight finish. Stones are not arranged in a course in Uncoursed Rubble Masonry, i.e. they are not laid down horizontally but instead stacked on top of each other over time. This is why it is known as uncoursed rubble masonry. This makes it the cheapest method of masonry construction as the stones are not dressed, thus reducing the cost of masonry construction.

Can concrete be repaired easily or is it very difficult? There is a small acid spill on my garage concrete slab, and it has eaten into the concrete. It is too small to be handled by a contractor.

Pete Sands | Feb 20, 2022
Davis Masonry Services | Feb 20, 2022

We have only seen minimal acid damage to concrete. The slight depression could be leveled off by simply applying an epoxy coating. Afterwards, the epoxy coating should cover the garage completely. For a garage floor with proper adhesion, follow the preparation instructions. In the case of a deeper depression, hiring experts such as Davis Masonry will be best. Plastering the area flat before painting may be the best fix for an acid leak outside the parking lot.

Would the longevity of a concrete driveway be affected if it takes more than 4 months to cure (caused by very wet gravel)? Curing took so long that flow marks can be seen in the concrete, which is on a slope.

Pete Sands | Feb 20, 2022
Davis Masonry Services | Feb 20, 2022

Curing concrete does not depend on the moisture of the gravel. Gravel, being a small rock, cannot retain water. The chemical process of concrete curing is called hydration. It involves the removal of water. Hence, concrete becomes harder over time as microscopic water is removed from it. Apparently, it has taken your contractor 4 months to cure your slab. In our previous pours, you could drive on them in 3 days. Within 7 days, you could work on the slab, and within 30 days, 98% of the design specifications had been met. If you see flow marks on that slab, there is something wrong, and yes, it will get stronger over time.

How do I fix a cinder block foundation by concrete contractors?

Pete Sands | Feb 20, 2022
Davis Masonry Services | Feb 20, 2022

We can repair your foundation at Davis Masonry. If a part of your foundation is sinking, if your basement wall is bowing, or if you recently added a room to your house, we will take care of it! An expert will come measure it and check everything out. In order to repair your foundation, we must determine if it is bowing or settling. If they see the step cracking or a crack that is wide at the top and narrower at the bottom, that usually indicates that a corner of the foundation has settled into the ground. We can then raise the settling side of the foundation. For foundations that bow, an adjustable beam system goes up against the wall, and there's a bracket on top that can tighten the beam and straighten the wall over time. Another option is the wall anchor system, which can be put on the wall and can be tightened and straightened over time. Both of these systems require little or no excavation.

Why are bricks better when building a house?

Marcy Taylor | Jan 21, 2022
Davis Masonry Services | Jan 21, 2022

Building a house exclusively of bricks can be costly, but it's a sensible investment that pays off. Interior walls made of bricks help adjust the building's temperature, as they store heat and cool air. In winter, the walls offer warmth, while on a hot summer day they have a cooling effect. This creates a pleasant indoor climate, which means healthy houses. Besides comfort, a building made of bricks also has some financial advantages. Houses made entirely out of brickwork cost less in the long run, because they need less energy for heating. Research has proved that bricks for internal walls are best suited to households with passive and lower energy consumption, as the walls efficiently support the house's heating system and also absorb humidity that cannot escape through efficient climate shielding.

Marcy Taylor | Dec 22, 2021
Davis Masonry Services | Dec 22, 2021

A mason is typically responsible for brick, stone, and concrete. An apprentice is rare to bring the same level of perfection to their product as these installation specialists do. If you hire specialists to work on your brick and stone patterns, they will put their expertise into it. A seemingly innocuous disagreement, such as crumbling stone, may be dangerous for your organization, and if not handled by professionals, can be detrimental. The experts in this field conserve both your capital and experience apart from their skills in the field. You may find it stressful and time-consuming to decide to assume specific responsibilities on your construction.
