Wonderful place; historic sights, beautiful vistas, varied hikes... There are great campgrounds that aren't crowded (especially during the week!), butterflies, flowers, lizards and bears! It's awesome:) Bring a mosquito head net, there are a million no-see-ums! Then you'll be fine

I came up for a 3 day weekend starting Friday. The drive was good, beautiful scenery, and the campsite was super clean. Within an hour of being there, a mama bear and her two cubs wandering into the camp. I gave them all the space and left for a while. Two hours later she returned. This mama bear is not afraid of people and looking for food. I would not suggest visiting this camp site for a while to give the bears some space. I actually left but plan to come back in the future. It has a lot of trails and it's nice a quiet.

This is a cool out of the way place. Plenty of ghost town type buildings and old timey artifacts. People camp here and hike here. There are bears. Go talk to the ranger and she'll fill you in. Definitely pack your food and leave nothing on the car. Lipgloss is food to bears. Anyway cool area and a ton of hiking. It's fun.

From absolutely beautiful dirt walking trails traversing the old hydralic mine remnants of a yesteryear;6 to the good times of "Humbug Days" and the annual town celebration this little mountain gem still holds some recreational "gold" in its park preserved splendor. Check out the old drain tunnel for a really cool adventure and be on the look out for Humbug Days with the firing of a real cannon, crafting, BBQ and local vendors. It's a hoot! The historic museum is small but well worth a visit, the gold records are hard to fathom... Still a lot left in them hills!

I have never encountered snakes of any kind at Malakoff, but as in any Wilderness Area you need to be cautious of wild animals
No rv park with hook up's, but campsites with water, bathrooms, showers, just no power or dump.
There are no electrical outlets in the Chute Hill Campground.
To get there from Auburn take Hwy 49 north to Nevada City where it turns left toward Downieville. Continue on toward North San Juan. Just short of town take a right on Tyler Foote Road. The road name changes to Cruzon Grade. Turn right onto Derbec Road. About 1.5-miles down the hill you arrive in historic North Bloomfield.
Yes, state park passes are accepted. They don't have a check in booth or anything, you'd have to take yourself into the gift shop to show your pass. Just enjoy the park and if a ranger asks you can show them your pass.
