They do a great job here. The fishing is great with many three plus pound bass being caught frequently. They also do a great job with dove management and research!

The area it self is great but hunting and fishing there is more of a hassle than enjoyment. Reason being is that after a lot of the hunts and fishing there it seems like the “conservation agents” want to give you a ticket for anything. Many times I’ve gone and had all proper paper work, legal guns, and legal limits (never once gotten a ticket) they will see everything is in order then try to say you did something like leave trash or say the “heard” you say something incriminating. Normally a 1-2 hour ordeal just to finishing packing up and leave. A standard check should not take that long or be that harassing. Hope they get it fixed because it’s the ONLY place that i have agents try and dig soooo hard to ticket you for absolutely nothing. Again they have never been able to ticket me and yet try sooo hard everytime even after they run my info and see it’s all always up to date. There is also the issue that there is 2 agents that frequently do not where a uniform (normally just all camo) and when asking for their information as in badge ID or employee identification the always reply with “I’m not required to give you that” which from my understanding they do. Very hard to trust a standard colored truck with a very dark hidden conservation logo. They will also NEVER approach you in the field to inform you that you did something wrong, which is strange to me because if someone does something wrong why not teach them in the act of it so you can show them exactly what they did wrong. They normally just wait till you get to your vehicle and will harass you in the parking lot non stop. Makes no sense to me. Probably will venture up north from now on and avoid the questionable agents here. Met many many great agents but unfortunately there are only 1 or 2 people who truly care about passing down the education that come with the job.

Great land for hunting however the Conservation Officers will try everything in their power to try and catch you doing something wrong. Even when you try to do everything right they will question you for an hour until they can get you on something. Don’t even think about being the youngest person in the hunting field because there’s *obviously* no way that a couple early 20 year olds are being responsible hunters.

Perfect for fishing and taking in nature. Just minutes off the beaten path for great fishing.

Bennett Springs Missouri is a better place for trout fishing. It's down south.
It is at the Bodarc Lake parking area in the SE corner
Others above have covered it. I will add though, fishing 'seasons', where they exist, arent set by the individual area but by the state department of conservation except in very specific circumstances.
Fish Plover and Coot Lakes for trout.
The 3 or so big lakes further north are usually the better catfish lakes
located at the entrance of the park on paper and the stationary map
Yes. My kids and I were catching them on worms on the bottom. Nice size ones too
Yes, and they are pretty wide, also you can run with your dog.
There's an honour box, just donate. You do have to bring your own life vests.
Personnel one are not allowed. One of the lakes have three John boats that you can use. Make sure you bring life vest and if you have a portable trolling and battery it will make easier to go around the lake.
Occasionally, they stock catfish in some of the lakes but it's not on the hotline. Every lake has channel cat and bullhead catfish. If you get lucky, and use live very small bluegill/sunfish for bait at Gopher lake, 5-8 lb channels aren't uncommon. P.S. use a big, heavy slide sinker ahead of a barrel swivel then a 2 foot long 20# test leader. Use a size 2/0 or 3/0 hook and put it thru the live sunfish 1 inch B4 the tail. Lastly, leave your drag loose on your reel so the fish can swim with it Most times the bigger cats will pick up your bait and take out line. Good luck !
Only during the managed hunt and you have to be drawn for that. Unfortunately you will have to wait until next year to apply. The managed hunt ended a week ago.
Absolutely not. You are sending him to is grave if you do, please research and find a place for him to be adopted into a new home that he is used to. He will not service especially against the bull frogs and snapping turtles already in that ecosystem.
I think only in designated areas. Like the shelters.
He was a MO state senator, I believe. He died back in the '50s. The conservation area land was donated to the state by his wife.
No
No, I don't believe any motor vehicles are allowed other than parks dept.
It is usually in March. Check their website for exact dates.
Not that I've seen.
I'm not quite sure. There is an office on locarion though. I'm sure they could provide that information for you.
Yes. They're there every spring and summer.
Yes
I have hunted rabbits and squirrels there with shotgun before. No single projectile firearms allowed
Open
There are several lakes with boat ramps and one has row boats available for you, just be sure to bring life jackets.
July 14th my wife and I caught three 7-10lb cats
No closes at 10 but it could be pretty late by the time they actually kick you out
No camping at James A Reed. But at Longview you can camp.
Deeper ponds near logs best bet. Sling bob it
Only in the campground. As far as i know it for groups, prearranged, only
No rent space at mall. It's not a place for a car show
Yes. Already stocked now.
Not sure the only thing i go there for is to fish...
Nell.....a monster broke my line...got it in on the concrete...was huge....then caught another half the size.. .still big tho....cut bait
Actually all of the lakes have descent populations of channel catfish, but the water is "turning over " currently, making for a slow bite.
I've never seen any boats
Morning and evening. I have my best luck using night crawlers or chicken livers
Don't know either. Nell had a lot over the weekend.
Ive seen some nice ones caught at bluestem
Yes. They are mostly pan size but every once in a while you will hook a nice one that is easy to clean
