Following 4 years of devastating wildfires in Sonoma County, I decided to move back to Santa Barbara which I had left 13 years before. My Father had lived here very contentedly in the 1990s, but I thought I should visit before deciding. In May of 2021 I visited and found that the number of housing units had been expanded and yet there was still the amazing plantings, beautiful trees and surrounding open lands. The major selling point to me was no hotel-like corridors!! Instead, all housing is story charming homes in many different models and designs! I knew there was a waiting list but fortunately I was able to work with their sales team and get an offer in July for a one-bedroom home that fitted me and my cats perfectly. I sold my home in Oakmont Village and moved to Valle Verde in August 2021! I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful, safe, well run Forever Home!

My husband and I moved here nearly five years ago and have loved every minute we’ve been here. The campus is beautiful, and we feel like we live in a neighborhood, since the units are all duplexes, fourplexes or stand alone homes, instead of large apartment type buildings. More importantly, Valle Verde has a culture of friendliness and support, and people care deeply about one another. Having all four levels of care gives us a very secure feeling, should we need additional care in the future.

When downsizing from our home in LA and moving to a Continuing Care Retirement Community I desired a place that rated high in as many of the following categories as possible: 1..People 2.Environment 3. Activities 4. Resident Services 5. Cuisine and 6.Close proximity to a University. What a wonderful surprise that Valle Verde in my evaluation was deserving of an A in each category. By "People" I meant the staff that operates the facility. Have they had the requisite training, are they kind and have a passion for their work and is the turnover low. "People" also meant for me the residents. Are they friendly, intelligent and have a broad range of interests. By "Environment" I was interested in the architecture of the housing for the residents and that the development was situated among trees, shrubs and nature. By "Activities" I wanted to know that there was a variety of organized programs that would appeal to a large cross section of people with varied interests. By "Resident Services" I meant that the facility was providing everything from medical help to maintenance of the housing where people live. By "Cuisine" I wanted to be sure that there was a varied menu appropriate for seniors and that the food was appetizing and tasty. Finally because most universities provide interesting programs for the community where the campus is located and having benefited from living a few minutes drive from UCLA for the previous 60 years the fact that Valle Verde was a short drive from UCSB meant that this requirement was easily satisfied.
