We parked the boat at the dock and walked in and ordered dinner and drinks. Everything was fine until security guards came up to us and asked for “passes” which we didn’t have. We were then told we needed to leave immediately. We weren’t allowed to finish our dinner or even pay our bartender/server. Food was great, drinks were good, but If you’re going to be closed for a private event, don’t let us sit down at the bar and order food and drinks and then tell us we have to leave immediately while we are in the middle of eating our dinner.

It is difficult to leave such a poor review of an establishment that I am so fond of, however, it needs to be done. Understanding that change is constant and that times are challenging, the Otesaga has not lived up to it's reputation of opulence. It used to be that the high cost of a room included the Friday night Manager's Reception (open bar / shrimp cocktail...), breakfast AND dinner (among others). Sadly none of these are now included in the extravagant cost. While the entire staff and crew are to be commended for their courtesy and performance, the lodging was worthy of the 2 star review. Our 3rd floor king-bed room had ants(!). I can't tell you how unsettling it is to be lying in bed, preparing to sleep, and having (what is presumed to be) an ant crawl in your eye. They were present throughout the room, as well as the bathroom. Additionally, the shower water handle was so loose I expected it to fall off while in use. There were cracks in the bathroom wall. This was a group function. In total, we had 7 guest rooms on various floors. Everyone else that came to our room commented (accurately) on how small our room was. I know that the unique layout of the hotel allows for the various room sizes. There was one other room similar in size to ours which garnered a lesser rate. Our room rate should have been similar but was equal to those that were much larger. The hotel hosted a wedding on the Saturday that we were there, and a reception that night. Our room was directly above the reception hall and we were privy to every dance beat and shouts of joy - both through the floor and window. Rooms in that/our vicinity should not be provided to guests (or if so - then at a large discount) during events like this. Also - the rooms of wedding party guests should ideally be isolated from the general public. There were several hallway conversations and many many slamming doors that night. As such, this will, unfortunately, be the last time we will be guests at this once-great juggernaut. For the price, we can easily get more room, intimacy and amenities at other 'luxury' resorts in the region.

We only stopped by to have a quick dessert. The chocolate cake was delicious and the portion early could feed 4 people. Lobby and view of the lake are spectacular. A must see when you visit Cooperstown.

I had a work conference at the Otesaga Resort and it was amazing! The staff were all really nice and accommodating, especially Dawn who is incredible and became our go-to person if members of our party had specific needs. Dawn went above and beyond in helping us and provided us with amazing local recommendations. If you're looking for a clean, gorgeous getaway or event location, I highly recommend staying at this hotel, especially if Dawn is working. Thank you for everything!
