We had the serviceman come out to check what kind of connection we would need for our gas dryer. That was $123, and found out that the part needed was a kit for neay $500. He was going to check to see if that could've been paid for by GE, and get back to us, but never did. The bad part of all this is we spent the $123 just to find out we needed to spend another $500 plus. Too bad we couldn't have that info in the first place, could've saved him a trip and us the money.

There are a number of moving and noisy parts in the microwave that could make a similar sound, including the cooling can, vent fan, stirrer motor, or even the magnetron itself can make unusual noises.
