If it’s listed as a “Homeless Shelter”, be a shelter for the homeless. They referred me to a different place. Because they aren’t a shelter.

Love this place and what they stand for. They are very compassionate, caring and make a difference in the community.

Someone I know is currently staying there. I was shocked to learn from his mother that the staff will not permit him to take his psych meds even though he is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. Even more disturbing is the fact that staff members have assigned the derogatory nickname “The Pacer” to him because of his constant pacing - a sign of his mental illness. Apart from this being unprofessional, it is just plain mean and speaks volumes about the quality of personnel who pretend to be loving, caring Christians. The hypocrisy is astounding. I work for an organization that provides mental health care to incarcerated persons. As you might imagine, the clinical staff deal with extreme cases of mental illness on a daily basis. It’s exhausting, frustrating, often dangerous work, but they do it because they care. During my time at this company I have NEVER heard any of them make fun of mentally ill patients or assign them nicknames. Last week the mother of this person asked to see him so that he could sign power of attorney papers for him so that she could manage his disability paperwork. Not only did they refuse to let her see him, they told her that since he has been approved to draw disability, he has to give New Orleans Mission a substantial portion of his payments. How exactly does this help him find his way out of the predicament of homelessness? Is it fair to call New Orleans Mission a homeless shelter even though rent is apparently required to stay there? New Orleans Mission is the antithesis of what it claims to be on its website. WWJD if a destitute guy asks for temporary aid? Apparently lock him up, strip him of mental healthcare, and give him a derogatory nickname while simultaneously helping himself to the guy’s sole source of income.

Very, very rude people that work here.

Can husband wife stay together
The reality is, this is a Church/Homeless Shelter that: *Holds you hostage for a year *Cuts you off from family and friends *Reads your mail *If you get an SSI check, they take it *If you get food stamps, they take it *WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO WORK FOR ANYONE but the New Orleans Mission And the sad thing is, everyone there is being convinced it's a good thing, and once they get in, they'll be brainwashed to talk about nothing but "JESUS and GOD" It fits the legal definition of a CULT!!!!!
Overnight guests can stay for 21 days. Any women or man that Joins our discipleship program one year or linger
Guests may check in from 4pm-6pm.
Check-in is from 4pm to 6pm for overnight guests. Anyone can leave at any time, but will not be permitted re-entry until the following day at the given intake time.
My son stayed there, however he didn't mention that he had an OS. Registry status. I'm not affiliated with the program myself, I just posted because they were such Tremendous help at a time when my son needed it. They even directed him to a Salvation Army I believe it was where they got him a bus ticket on to North where we live . Hey had had some really badd luck in Colorado while looking for work had his Van stolen which contained his wallet and clothes and everything else I owned so he hitchhiked down as far as Louisiana so common now you know the rest of the story. Lol!
On certain occasions
That would be Unity housing help with Section 8
No. They don't do detox or rehab. But if you go in, talk to Candi in intake. She canget program coordinators who may be able to make referrals and help with that. Many addicts do stay in the year long program after detox. As a halfway house/stabilizing period. Not everyone likes the program but they have more successes than failures for sure. They do God's work. They help. Even those who don't wanna be helped
No no fees are charged... Just severe religious indoctrination
30 days
Honestly this is a little late but there are places that allow showers here... Search for "the rebuild center" or if your from here the old va building does them during the week in the morning and also washes a load of clothes for you if need be
Maybe after getting a job and get my first check
If you stay overnight I do believe they can issue a homeless letter however, for those unwilling to suffer the religious indoctrination for a prison style sleeping experiance, B.B. St. Roman, is a NOPD officer on the homeless task force and she can issue them after observing you living on the street, and Ms. Angie at the old VA building (crrc) can issue them under the same circumstances as Ms. B.B.
No. Separated to address needs individually.
The mission does not take children at this time try the women at the well in gentilly they can help the entire family
I need a answer on this
Yes you have to be in the program to stay at the mission
Must have a identification card to get in
Depends how much you have
No minors at all. Even free will volunteers are adults. If I were you I wouldn't want my kids there anyway. It not upstanding citizens only. All kinds of offenders. Its a shelter. They don't turn folks away for an ugly past.
What is white flag
Approximately 9 am for the day, lunch around 1 pm. For dinner, check in starts at 4, dinner at 7 after an hour of forced church service at 6.
Usually a month after the Mission receives it
Yes but you will be staying separately. Wife in the women's quarters. Husband in the men's area and then eventually probably in the retreat thingy which isn't in New Orleans. Somewhere around Mandeville I think. But I'm a female so I've never been plus I'm home in Maryland now
