The facility is very nice. Having said that, I found the sales person Bri Stewart unprofessional. I was told that my parents would be reviewed the day after my tour. My need was immediate. It has been 2.5 weeks and still no word. This delay has caused issues. I found another community and had my answer the next day. Very disappointed with her lack of communication and disrespect to the needs of my family.

The Sales director Lisa is wonderful however, the executive director is very unprofessional and does not know much. She basically told me that my mom could be in memory care even though she did not want to go. I have Healthcare POA. So I got a bridge loan and worked hard to get all the p aperwork finished. Waited 2 weeks for an assessment. The executive director indicated that my mom would be able to be a resident. Well, she did not try to get assessments done and now refuses to let my mom be a resident saying that I need more paperwork. As long as this executive director is here, I am glad my mom is not a resident.

I walked into Forest Heights to take a look around. I was immediately greeted by a wonderful English fellow named Richard. He was very pleasant and I could tell by the way he addressed the residents that walked off the elevator that he really cared about them. He walked back and brought out the Sales Director, Lisa. She was dressed impeccably, had a wonderful, sunny disposition. We went to her office and I was immediately offered refreshments and a packet of information. Lisa asked thoughtful questions and was very empathetic to my situation. While we were touring, she stopped to help several residents which I thought was just wonderful considering she is in sales, not resident care. She explained after we returned to her office that the managers see their community as the residents home in which they are visitors. The residents obviously feel very comfortable coming to any of the managers for help and the managers are happy to stop what they are doing for them. That is the way a senior living community should be! I was extremely impressed with Forest Heights and will be moving my mother in at the end of this month! Thank you Lisa and Richard for being so attentive to the residents and their guests! I've been to several other places and I have to say, everyone was nice to me, but that extra care I saw Lisa and Richard give to the residents is what matters most and that is what swayed my decision to move my mom in.

I just toured with Forest Heights. The Sales Director, Lisa was very knowledgeable, kind and just amazing! She had lunch ready for us since we drove all the way from Asheville NC. Steffan, the Chef's seafood salad was without a doubt better than most 5-star restaurants I've been in. And to top that off, Lisa had a beautiful "comfort basket" made for my mother because I mentioned comfort was important to her. Michelle, the memory care director was fun and full of light and everyone we met, like Sharon, one of the Aids were so friendly! I am sending in a check as soon as I get home! What an amazing place for my mom to live out the rest of her days! Very impressive!!

Questions & Answers

When I visit assisted living communities with my daughter, I find it all a little intimidating. Moving from a small house to a big community is frightening. I just don’t know if I can learn my way around a new place.

My father needs more help than we can provide for him to be safe at home. I think he realizes it but is reluctant to leave the friends he’s made in his neighborhood. Dad has lived there for about 25 years. What can we do to reassure him he can stay connec

Good question! Embarking on a new chapter in life doesn’t mean old friends have to be left behind. Assisted living communities offer a wide range of programs and events residents can invite guests to participate in. And they also offer transportation services so your dad can attend events in and around town with his old buddies. Fortunately, there are other ways your father can stay in touch. Social media channels like Facebook or a video chat service such as Skype are two easy avenues for staying connected.

My mom agreed that it was time for her to move to an assisted living community this winter. She knows she just isn’t safe living alone any longer. We found a community Mom seemed to love. Now we can’t seem to get her motivated to actually make the move. I

This sometimes happen when it actually comes time to make the move. Your mom is probably anxious and a little uncertain. A late life transition like this isn’t easy to make. What might help is to get her involved in some of the events and activities at the new community now, instead of waiting until she actually moves in. Talk with the staff to see about helping her find a buddy with similar interests and hobbies that she can bond with during her visits. Becoming more familiar with the community and with a few fellow residents can help make the move feel a little less intimidating.

My children live out of town and have busy lives. I know I need to move to a senior living community but I don’t want to burden my children with downsizing my house. What can I do? It’s overwhelming to think about doing it all on my own.

We hear this concern from seniors often. Sorting through and packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings can be overwhelming. One resource we like to share with families is a group of professionals called Senior Move Managers. They are experts at handling all of the details of a later life move.
