Food lion was formerly known as food town. When it expanded into Virginia it encountered problems in Richmond and maryland because several other stores there Were Also Called Food Town. Delhaize, who acquired food town, had a lion logo, So Food Town Asked delhaize If They Could Use It On Product labels and new store signs. On December 12, 1982 it was announced by Ralph Ketner that food Towns new name would be food lion.
