The homeless services only gets more than 1 star due to the size and scale of the operation being so impressive. Most cities have maybe 2 or 3 shelters and/or a soup kitchen or 2. NYC has it's own homeless services NETWORK. The shear size of this undertaking alone, is impressive although unfortunately still NOT ENOUGH to truly handle the ENTIRE homelessness issue in NYC. Actually, it's most-likely the largest service of it's kind coming out of any other large U.S. cities. However, the bigger the system... the more broken it seems to always get! Sometimes I just see so much homelessness and wonder how...but then I realize just how dangerous mostly all homeless shelters in NYC are on a daily basis. This is why so many people choose to stay outside, on the streets, because the shelters are such a huge safety and life risk. Imagine that. The city-provided assistance for homeless individuals is considered WORSE than sleeping on a sidewalk!

Yes you can send by mail or internet
If you are a family you must to go PATH located in the bronx. Male have to go to 30th street Bellevue
You can get assistance but the priorities work against you. Housing is very scarce in NYC particularly affordable units. Most owners have left Sec8 as they can make more money per unit in the open market.NYC is building new facilities and in Bklyn some owners in specific areas( East Flatbush,Flatlands) have converted apts into shared units. NYC gives 1st priority to ppl in the homeles system. There arent enuf units for qualified in system ppl. Go to your neighborhood help center( find yours on google) to learn the programs available. A new one is NYC will pay for you to live with a family member in or out of state.
Most open at 8:30 AM
