We loved going camping there. Beautiful sites. Wish they would open full campgrounds again. Miss going there.

One of our favorite campgrounds. National park with water/electric and natural sites. Some are large, but some are quite tight to get into. The bathhouses are typical - unheated, but cleaned daily. There is NO cell service in or near the park though.
Kim Hi
We parked here as part of our backpacking trip. Our car stayed safe the whole time, and when we ran into difficulty on our trail, they came and helped us out! Absolutely would stay there again when we are in the area. Absolutely beautiful countryside.

This is a really great campground to escape the summer heat at 3,800 feet in elevation. Hike from your campsite to the top of Mount Rogers or stay and enjoy one of the best birding sites in the region. Enjoy campfire programs, splashing in the creek, playground, volleyball, and the Whispering Waters Nature Trail. It is a favorite spot for both RV and tent campers with primitive sites, water/electric sites, and hot showers. Reservations recommended. When we visited fee were $24 per single site per night (max 8 people, 2 vehicles). $48 per double site per night (max 16 people, 4 vehicles.). $8 for hookups. $5 day use fee per vehicle, up to 5 people. $5 shower fee per person (non-camper). $5 dump station fee (non campers). Directions are pretty easy..From Troutdale, VA: Take exit 45 and travel on Highway 16 south for 17 miles. Turn right onto State Route 603 and continue six miles the to Grindstone Campground entrance on the left. From I-81 Northbound: Take exit 35 at Chilhowie and turn right onto County Road 762 and travel approximately 10 miles. Note that County Road 762 becomes County Road 600 at the blinking yellow light. Take a left onto State Route 603 and continue for five miles to the Grindstone Campground entrance on the right.

No cell service. Their is a phone at the gate house for emergency
Just came home from Grindstone. There is a store, good little market variety of camping needs. Are about 30 minutes to Chilhowee Virginia. Great getaway the place was full this weekend. Enjoy
Water & electric on most sites unless designated tent site. ... Potable water around those sites. Sewer available on campground host sites. Sometimes those are unoccupied & you can camp there but to my knowledge you can't reserve them in advance. All bathhouses have lights, electricity, hot water, nice showers, always cleaned & well maintained. Check the campground map for available hook-ups on each site. Recreation.gov is a good resource for info & making reservations. This is a Federal campground so have to use Recreation.gov rather than Reserve America website.
Hi Charlotte! Thank you for your question. Due to significant maintenance that must be performed, Grindstone will be closed next season. We may be able to open a portion of the campground but that cannot be determined at this time. Any changes to the availability at Grindstone will be announced on recreation.gov. You can also visit recreation.gov to see other campground options on the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Thanks again for your question, Grindstone Campground
Yes, both were available.
Was just there, the office is not always occupied by hosts but did see them on the phone. They reserve thru recreation.gov website and you might find info there.
There are four bathhouses for the three loops ...1 in opossum loop ...2 for cottontail loop... And 1 for groundhog loop
Sorry no, you really don't need them. Grindstone and Bear tree are very nice campgrounds. The host are wonderful.
Closed for the season. Can be real cold early season
