Needed the wheels of trash carts replaced. Carlos quickly answered my call & submitted by computer a service request. Done in 7 days. Another advantage to living in the City of Durham. Service!

I have used the bulky items twice. Each time I am told to place the item out on a specific day to no avail. When I call to find out why, I am told the came on a different day. I have to call back and almost be berated by Ms. LLoyd. I tried to speak with supervisor but she never sent the request.

THANK YOU for the "Bulky Items" pickup program! I have used this for routine pickup of several large items. Without this service, I would have had to contract with a third party for pickup and disposal. The service works exactly as described on the website. Thanks again!

Be sure to press 0 if you want to speak to someone, the recording will hang up on you if you wait till the end as directed. Good luck getting them to answer and not hang up when the phone does ring to someones desk. ( I gave a one star because I had to in order to post this, it won't let you leave less than a one star)

Durham Solid Waste Management | Nov 18, 2021

There are a few ways to dispose of tree limbs. However, they must be less than 4" in diameter and 4 feet in length. We offer curbside yard waste pickup for $7.50 / month. We also offer curbside bulky brush pickup for a fee (yard waste subscribers get 2 free pickups of bulky brush). Finally, you can deliver to the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd for a fee.

It sounds like you might be using our "Exempt" service where we do not require you to roll your cart to the curb. For those signed up for exempt service, the cart must be visible from the street, not behind any fence or other obstructions, and clear of any place where a dog might be able to harass a collector. For more information about our exempt service, call 919-560-1200.

Cannot find what plastics (# 1-7) that can be recycled in Durham, NC.

John Long | Sep 14, 2020
Durham Solid Waste Management | Nov 18, 2021

Recycling can be tricky, and that recycle by number system isn't necessarily indicative of a specific item's recyclability. We encourage residents to keep it simple. You know you can recycle milk cartons, plastic bottles, glass bottles, paper, cardboard, steel and aluminum cans. If you stick with the basics, you're doing great. Avoiding contamination is much more important than getting every recyclable item in the blue cart. You can find more information here and use our Waste Wizard to search for specific items: https://durhamnc.gov/862/Recycling

We offer curbside yard waste pickup for $7.50 / month. Also, you can deliver to the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd for a fee. Please never put yard waste in a garbage bag. If you do, it goes to a landfill. If you dispose of it properly, it is composted. Call 919-560-1200 for more information.
