Two young grandsons really enjoyed our visit. The video was interesting and out guide very knowledgeable. But we only were in three buildings. I remember visiting there as a young school girl in the early 1950's and I know we got to see more- the printing building, a bakery and gardens. I even remember climbing very narrow steps to other floors. I attended the wedding of one of my nieces in the chapel there in 2005.

This was amazing to experience. To see what happened in history and to be able to show my son what it was like to live back in those days and to see his face with pure shock and joy about how it was back then was amazing. I would post pictures that I have taken but that would take away from you experiencing this on your own. It is also very educational but I would also recommend if you have smaller children, this wouldn't really be for them. I would say for kids ages 8 and older. My son is 9 going on 10 and he loved every minute of it.

Just went on the lantern tour and really enjoyed it! It is more like a play being acted out than a tour of the facilities. You walk through several of the buildings, but they don't talk about the buildings too much or the articles in the buildings. They are telling a story and you get a sense of what life was life in the mid 1700s. Walking around with the lanterns is very fun. It is fairly well lit, so there isn't much worry about tripping. The biggest hazard is banging your head on the low doorways 😀. Definitely worth the visit for a unique experience!

Actually just went to take pictures of my daughter and her friends before homecoming. It's a beautiful spot and enjoyed walking around. Would love to return to learn more as I am a huge history buff!!

Johann Conrad Beissel came to Ephrata to create a community. For more information you should come tour Ephrata Cloister
Ephrata Cloister and all Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Museums remain closed until further notice.
It is open, they even have a big event coming up June 29th 9-4 rain or shine with artist, food, wine and more!
The town it's in is Ephrata, PA. Cloister refers to the religious group that was formed there. A German founder, habitated until the 1920s. Many cool, interesting buildings plus you can tour with a guide. Very interesting history. Very nice shop. I wish I had bought more of the natural hand and body creme. We enjoyed our visit very much.
