Buy a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner (on eBay or Amazon) for 7-15$. Download/buy "torque pro" if on android. Go into "test results", within the app. Go to "02 data". Check sensor one & two..if sensor number 2 is working (meaning no fault codes for a bad sensor)- the sensor will show a straight line graph. If the catalytic converter is bad, the graph will go up and down like sensor one. Sensor 1 is before the converter, #2 is after. So check the second 02 sensor data. Or go to the shop.
He can install it in under 30 minutes. The only problem being: Does he have the Cat in stock, or need to get it from a supplier? If he has it, same day, done. Both mine he had to order (BMW and Chevy S10), took a day, and then finished next day, almost instantly
They take about one hour and a half.
