My Mom is a patient. I've been trying to reach his office for months now, email and left messages with no response. How do you continue to be in practice?

I was a patient of Dr. Cortes for 12 years so imagine what experience I would need to have to leave a 1-star review. I went in for my annual physical where blood work is standard. No special blood work needed just the usual. 2 weeks after my annual check up I get a bill from LabCorp that I owe $1,200 for the blood work. No way I'm paying that. I have insurance and Dr. Cortes's office apparently confirmed my insurance is applicable to my appointment, both prior and after paying my deductible after. I called Dr. Cortes's office and they said they will speak to LabCorp and refute the bill, but that it may take more than 3 months to hear back (ridiculous but okay). Every month I received a mailed reminder from LabCorp that I still owe $1,200. So after 3 months I call back Dr. Cortes's office to hear an update and they said they "will take care of it". Then began the painstaking experience of attempting to get an update from Dr. Cortes's office that included phone call attempts AND personal visits to their office - simply to get an update. After a year from my annual check up (yes a YEAR. 12 months later), LabCorp sends me a final invoice reminder that I have to pay the $1,200 or they will take it to the Credit Bureau. I get a call from Dr. Cortes's office that same week simply saying " we can't do anything about this invoice and you will need to speak to your health insurance directly." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is all you can say after 12 MONTHS? (yet another example of their disorganization). I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Cortes directly to not just tell him about the situation, but that this will be the last time they see me and my family members (parents, grandparents, and others are patients). The only thing he can say is "who did you speak to about this? Was it a man or woman's voice?". For the record, multiple people in their office told me the same thing. But it doesn't matter. It's "Dr. Cortes's office." He manages the office. Unfortunately, I paid the bill before my credit was impacted. And what's even more unfortunate is this is the SECOND time I had to pay for blood work for a standard annual check up. Hence this long review and leaving his office. This office is disorganized, always 45+ minutes late to call you in after waiting in the lobby, and gone for half the day to pick up phone calls (on multiple visits to the office I've heard other patients complain about how they're never available for phone calls). The reason I leave this review is because this was my experience for standard blood work. I can't imagine the patient who needs to do special blood work for their health conditions and is getting billed $1,000+ because Dr. Cortes's management is simply incompetent. Terrible doctor's office go somewhere else. This is a seasoned 12-year experience.

Been going to Dennis Cortes for 10 years now. He truly goes the extra mile with each of his patients and also achieves solid results!!

It appears that it is the practice of this doctor that if you are not happy with the service you receive a letter from the doctor withdrawing as your doctor which I think is so unprofessional. On 7/16/21 I visited the office for my results for an ultrasound of my kidneys. I was placed in a room where I sat for approximately 30 minutes . I was about to leave but the doctor came and I told him that I was about to leave. His comment was "this is not a Burger King". I proceeded to ask about my results which he had to go get from another office. He came back with results of a mammogram. I expressed that I was not there for that..as I mentioned it was for the ultrasound. I guess he noticed my facial expression that I was annoyed so sent me a letter the following day to withdraw as my doctor. It was hilarious to me as I didn't plan on going back anyway. With this attitude it's a wonder he still have patients.

I addressed this issue with the office last week. I was told that they have been short of staff and had their phone lines transferred to their answering service. I left a message with no return and the next day I left 2 more messages and my call was returned immediately at that point. It's weird have your phones transferred to an answering machine for several days. I don't think Dr. Cortes is aware of this but again when you're short staffed these are the things that happen
Don't go before 12:00 and 1:30
