Awesome natural unspoiled beach.

This place is always amazing. The staff is great, the ferry ride is relaxing. I'm so glad there is more staff on the island now. Dont leave NC without a day at the beach here.
Mike Larrick
Pretty good, although not a lot of places to set up your hammock. Deceiving name, only four stars.

Yes
You can camp at a designated campsite on Bear Island which is part of the park. Some are close to the beach. There is a ferry that goes to Bear Island which costs about $6 per person or you can kayak/canoe over. Hammocks Beach's website has campsite maps, ferry info etc.
I've never seen one there, but it doesn't mean they aren't there. There's always a chance. Look before you step.
Yes there is electricity.
For camping??? No but I'm sure there's outlets on the mainland where you catch the ferry and on the island at the bathhouse/concession stand
Single kayak $30 for 2hrs. Tandem $40 for 2 hrs. Canoe $40 for 2hrs. Price goes up with more time rentals.
Yes on bear island are 14 rustic camp sites you may use two tents in one site.online reservations only.its the most peaceful place you will ever camp.pack light
a
No beach access here
You can also paddle to the camp site if you do not want to take the ferry.
Hampton Inn nearby
During regular operating season, yes, it is. They can also accomodate with ride to the beach once off boat and on the island. The rangers and staff are very friendly and hospitable. However, the Hammocks Beach State Park ferry is not in operation at this time, unfortunately.
Very small beach but it's on Bear Island. You need to rent kayaks to get there. Parking free at the center. I would go to Atlantic Beach as they have their town park with parking and access
What is a private water taxi? Where are you being water taxied to? Try Google. NC Paddle is a private company in the park that let's you rent kayaks. Not sure exactly what you were asking
I wanna say it was 60 for the day. Maybe 30 for hour. I can't remember exactly but I know it was pricey compared to most places.
Big public beach. Plenty of room for all. Small hike from inlet water way. Short boat ride to dock. Worth the trip and effort.
Have not seen any there. I have been out there several times in the last 2 weeks, but they are around.
Trees not close enough to string a hammock
Yes, but check with office regarding what's allowed & how. State Park Police on site always.
You can access the bath house, but not for facilities. There is no water or electricity due to hurricane Florence damage. Boardwalk access from the beach is cut off because of severe beach erosion again due to the hurricane.
There are no fires allowed on the island. If you go to the website and look under camping it specifically say's no fires allowed.
The sand dollars stick to the cutbanks and sandy shoals in our waterway. Never really seen any on the beach there.
No alcohol allowed in state parks
You need to reserve a campsite. Pack lightly as you have to take everything down the path to the beach and then up and down a dune into the camping site.
Camp fires create a safety hazard for boats traveling thru channels during the night time. Watercraft rely on designated light beacons for directions. Hammocks Beach is part of the Outer Banks water way system.
Admission to all state parks is free unless they have a swim beach. No fee for Hammocks Beach. The cost for the ferry is $5 for people over 13. $3 for kids 6-12, free for kids 5 & under. Camping on the island is $13. (I highly recommend it! You can camp right on the beach! Just bring bug spray.)
Yes a private and a public one. Private one is awesome!
I dont believe so, there is a no fire rule on the island. I was told that there isn't an efficient way to control the fire. But, you can always call the park and find out for sure.
Adult roundtrip: $5, Senior: $3, Kids 6-12: $3, Kids <6: Free.
The ferry runs every half hour, on the hour and half past. The last is at 5:30 I believe. Don't know when they start.
I believe it's every hour now, instead of every half hour.
I personally can't, I live here. I just go there for recreational use.
