I went to get our Foodscrap container. The people are friendly

Just called telling them I moved to this location and that they accepted cardboard boxes. In my mind, I thought great with given opening hrs. Once I drove up though, I was only to be turned away because I didn't have utility bills to prove I moved. It would of been handy to know that information before driving down, especially telling that you just moved to the location. Most paperwork on driver's/car registration or utilities take longer than a month to have everything transfer to your name. Like this was cardboard, no toxic waste. Isn't this suppose to be a public drop off? Are people really falsifying information to recycle to help the planet? Please tell people that they need their id or some kind of proof of id of living at elk grove before having them waste their time.
Patrick Keenan
Randomly refuses to accept recyclables at unpredictable times. You might drive all the way there only to be turned away.

Drove by for the tire recycling event and didn't have to get out of the car. It was very easy to drive through and they take the items out of your car for you and have you swipe your driver's license. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

They will accept both items. Please ensure you let them know that you have two appliances when you call to make your appointment as they may limit heavy items depending on the number of appointments already set for that day (due to weight limits for vehicles). If they will not take both at the same time, you get 3 free pick-ups per year so you can either schedule a later pick-up or use two pick-ups.

There is no limit to the number of batteries we will accept from residents or businesses; however, per State DOT regulations, you should not transport more than 125 lbs. at a time. If the batteries are coming from a business, please call us at (916) 627-3232 first and we will send you a copy of the Business Waste Drop-off Form and set-up and appointment for you. Residents can drop-off waste anytime during open hours without an appointment.
Yes, we can accept e-waste for free from any resident within a participating jurisdiction (Sacramento City, Sacramento County, Rancho Cordova, Galt, and Elk Grove). Please bring an ID or utility bill as proof of residency.
If they are in reusable condition, we can put them in our Reuse Room. Other residents can use them for free and we reduce the costs of recycling by avoiding the transportation and processing costs. Elk Grove residents can drop off small amounts (up to one truck bed per month) of stone tile in the "inerts" bin in our Recycle Center. Tile must be stone or ceramic, no porcelain. Proof of residency is required.

We can accept lawn mowers from Elk Grove residents (proof of residency required) if they have been completely drained of all fuel and other fluids. We would not be able to accept a complete motorcycle; we suggest taking this item to a scrap metal dealer or an auto salvage yard. If it is just motorcycle parts, we may be able to accept the parts if the are metal only and completely drained of all fluid.
We can accept polystyrene (styrofoam) coolers from Elk Grove residents only. Unfortunately packing peanuts are not recyclable at this time. However, many shipping stores will accept them for reuse.
Hazardous waste can be dropped off as often as needed. In our Recycling Center, which is open to Elk Grove residents only, most recyclables are unlimited as well; however, due to space constraints we have to limit green waste and inerts (dirt concrete, bricks, etc.) to one load per month. One load is 5 cubic yards or approximately the amount you can fit into the back of a pick-up truck filled to the top of the cab.
Yes, depending on whether you are an Elk Grove resident. Printers are accepted as e-waste at any time from any eligible resident (Elk Grove, Sac. County, Sac. City. Rancho Cordova, and Galt). The electric fan and weed wacker can be accepted in the appliance bin in our Recycle Center, which is open only to Elk Grove residents. The weed wacker should be drained of all fluid. Tires are accepted only one week out of every month (because its a grant-funded program). We can accept up to 9 tires from any resident in the County; our next tire collection event is January 6-9 2019.
Elk Grove residents have three options to dispose of extra yard waste for free: (1) request an additional yard waste can from Republic Services, you can have up to 3 cans at no additional charge; or (2) you can bring one load (5 cubic yards or one truck bed-full) per month of yard waste to this facility - the Special Waste Collection Center for free; or (3) Elk Grove residents are entitled to one free dump per year at the Elder Creek Transfer Station, 8642 Elder Creek Road. Proof of residency is required for (2) and (3).
These items are considered trash (not recyclable in most cases) so you can dispose of them by either scheduling a curbside bulky waste pick-up with your hauler (free from Republic Services if you're an Elk Grove resident) or by dropping it off at a transfer station or landfill.
For residents, no. Use of the facility is included in your monthly garbage bill. For businesses; however, since the commercial garbage bills are a separate agreement between the business and the hauling company, there is a fee for disposal at our facility. Please see our website for more information: http://www.elkgrovecity.org/city_hall/departments_divisions/garbage_recycling/commercial/hazardous_waste_disposal_for_businesses
Great question. Unfortunately, there are no great answers. Polyurethane foam is not something most recyclers will accept for re-manufacturing because of the high cost to process it versus the amount of material present (because there is so much air, there is not much plastic to recycle). A quick search did not reveal any facilities in our region that will accept this type of foam for recycling so, unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to dispose of this at the landfill.
The service is free to eligible residents (residents of Elk Grove, Sacramento County, Sacramento City, Rancho Cordova, and Galt). Eligible small businesses are required to pay a fee for waste disposable. Fee rates are available on the City's website at www.elkgrovecity.org/recycle
No, it does not.
Printers would be considered an e-waste item, which we can accept from Galt residents at the main drop-off location of the Special Waste Collection Center. Just be sure to bring an ID or other proof of residency. The Recycle Center is a self-service portion of the facility that is open only to Elk Grove residents and accepts cardboard, green waste, scrap metal, appliances, etc.
Our Recycle Area is open to residential customers only. Dental equipment is business waste so you will need to take that to either a Transfer Station or scrap metal dealer for recycling or a landfill for disposal.
Only if you are an Elk Grove resident.
Yes, we can accept paint from any eligible resident in the County (residents of Elk Grove, unincorporated Sacramento County, Sacramento City, Rancho Cordova, and Galt).
We can accept the TVs from any resident of Sacramento County as e-waste. Microwaves are a recyclable appliance so they would be accepted within our Recycle Area, which is only available to Elk Grove residents. Proof of residency is required.
Yes, if you are an Elk Grove resident and have proof of residency we can accept appliances in our self-serve recycle area. Upon arrival, you would drive through the canopy area to check-in and provide your contact info. Our technicians will then direct you to the Recycle Center where you can drop off your washer in the appliance bin.
Our recycle area is only open to Elk Grove residents so you'll have to call your local solid waste hauler for more information.
Yes, if you are an Elk Grove resident you can bring up to 5 cubic yards of cardboard per month. That's about the size of the back of a pick-up truck filled to the top of the cab. Please bring a photo ID or some other proof of residency such as a utility bill, rental agreement, etc.

The cost to drop-off paint, electronics, and other types of hazardous waste is completely free because it is already included in your monthly garbage bill.
