Don’t bother the staff including the control officer we’re rude and self centered they were more concerned with themselves then the safety of my animals in a meet and greet that they scheduled at mid day in 100 degree weather with no adequate safe area for our animals or the animal we were interested in adopting. When asked if they would reschedule at a cooler time period for my elder dogs they refused then when we complied they walked my dogs around on hot pavement for 30 min in hot sun untill I became concerned for my animals The observing official was rude and overbearing with my family and lied stating that our family was a good fit. When we were denied the adoption they stated that we were not a good fit with no explanation as to why. This shelter is a waste of time and a waste of my tax dollars. Recommend going to a shelter to adopt that actually cares about animals these guys are one step above a kill shelter

I have never been discriminated more during an interview process. I had just put down my dear baby jade - an older dog, due to pneumonia and was ready for a new love. I don’t want to play the “race” card in good ol’ grass valley, but never has this experience in Sacramento…but my application was subject to Facebook searches trying to find pictures of me and others?, denial because someone “sounded young” - and that my application went through other confirmation steps that others had not, then saying they were going to call another person and when I followed up, they never did. So sad they don’t have the doggies best interest at heart - but instead make a very personal weird experience for anyone adopting - and they don’t do adoptee holds, yet allow someone to put a hold on a dog until they could drag their husband to see…so a doggy could miss out on a home because your husband-like what? As well as walking into thee most unfriendly and rude staff, and an ancient front desk lady who can barley hear. Then stopped picking up the phone!

Called to see if they had any epileptic dogs and the lady that answered hung up after I asked if they had any.

Wonderful staff! We just adopted our little guy from the shelter they run and had a really awesome experience. We have a little one so we went there several times over the course of a few weeks to get to know the dogs and make sure we were adopting a dog who was a good fit for our family. The staff was very supportive and helped us find our perfect little guy. You can really tell that they spend time with and know all of the animals that they care for really well. They also have a clean facility and have the animals on a good diet which is awesome. We couldn't be happier with the new addition to our little family!! Thank you guys!

Questions & Answers

Does the shelter do euthanasia?

No, they do not euthanize animals.

I don't have a question but an inquiry. It lists that South Auburn is the street where the shelter is. That is not correct.

Not correct. GVAC is on Freeman Lane.
