Spoke with Greg Jones today regarding bear river dam. He was very forthcoming and answered all my questions to the best of his ability, leaving the conversation I was much more prepared to handle my situation. It was an excellent experience and kudos to this man for being available to the public!

There are basically only THREE ways to get water around here: drill a well, pay your city, or use NID. I have lived here pushing 70 years, and have had a LOT of dealings with NID, as did my parents and grandparents and their parents. I have always found them to be polite, courteous, and helpful. When an underground pipe broke one winter, under the two month billing cycle, my bill was in the THOUSANDS (!!!) of dollars. They worked with me to reduce the amount and set up payments and if late, gave me extra time if I needed it-- if I called to let them know. I find the counter staff to be excellent. We talk and joke, and 'Remember When' -- they will do everything they can do to make even the hardest bill or problem easier to deal with. Just be polite, civil, and remember that they have a job to do and rules to follow just like you. The post about removing a bridge and pipe then taking the materials, AND leaving a gate open IS inexcusable. ANY IDIOT knows that "Leave A Gate Like You Found It" is one of THE top 3 "Rules of The West" (and, yeah, you ARE in 'The West'). I personally have never had a confrontation like that, but that was the action of ONE crew, not NID. I am sure they told the owner ahead of time, but I don't know. If they didn't then shame on them. There are reasons you can't build BRIDGES over a ditch, but when I was a kid, we walked to and from school along the old NID ditch, and EVERYONE had planks over the ditch to walk on to get to the other side, I mean a simple 2x14 or 2x16 inch plank, and I'd never seen any of those removed. "Bridges" are not planks and probably need to pass engineering standards. This is Nevada COUNTY, not the State of Nevada where it generally doesn't matter - but people and horses and cars DO go into streams and bogs when a short span bridge fails, I've hauled out a neighbor and his horse when his bridge failed and they went into a bog. It's not fun, and they are both lucky they didn't die in the fall. Since NID is basically only place around who sell water in pipes - you can like them or hate them -- or not care. If you like them, it won't make them better, but it will make you feel and be better; if you hate them it won't make them better, and it will end up making you sick or bitter. Let's all learn to live together - we all have jobs and most of us have rules we don't like to enforce, but we have to, it's our job. They say you kill more flies with sugar than vinegar - (unless it's fruit flies and you have a can of poison gas or a strip of fly paper over the dish of vinegar).

I asked a customer service representative this question. She said I can pay my bill through my bank's bill pay service, but not directly through NID website. The vendor information needed to set up bill pay is included on my statement.
