I also had sprint. I have 5 lines with unlimited data. I pay 258 now and that is with the phones.
Go to any Verizon corporate store to get it turned on.. or you can call Verizon and make your payment.
I would call ahead and make an appointment. But I would definitely take it back, it should be under warranty
