Questions & Answers

I slipped and fell at the grocery store and hurt my knee pretty badly, do you handle things like that?

Jacqueline Mercer | Sep 12, 2021

We do! Slip and Fall cases fall under the category of General Liability Personal Injury Cases. When this situation occurs, it is important to contact a qualified attorney right away, in order to preserve the evidence and get picture of the scene as soon as possible before the scene changes. When people who cause injury due to a defect, they after cure the defect as soon as possible after someone gets injured on their property. This fact not only destroys the evidence, but is not admissible as evidence at trial.

When should I put together a will?

The simple answer to this question is that you should have a will as soon as you start accumulating assets. When you die without a will, the law determines to whom your assets will be distributed, which in many cases will not be consistent with your wishes. A Last Will & Testament will also allow you to appoint the person who will be in charge of managing and distributing your estate.

I heard you do something to help people who win the lottery, what is it?

Sarah Bennett | Sep 12, 2021

In Massachusetts, when someone wins the Major Lottery Prize, it is required that the winner be identified, photographed, and used for promotional purposes by The Massachusetts Lottery. Not everyone wants to have their name and photograph publicized, knowing that it can be a life-changing experience and not for the better. We construct a trust and allow the winners of major prizes to collect their winnings anonymously, with our attorney appearing as the winner. It is a simple, efficient method of keeping your good fortune a secret from relatives and friends, some of which you may not even know you have.

Do I need an attorney when I'm buying a house?

Sarah Bennett | Sep 12, 2021
SKB Attorneys | Sep 12, 2021

Lots of people buy houses without the assistance of a qualified attorney, but they do so at their own peril. To make what in most cases is the largest investment of a lifetime without qualified professional help is foolhardy to say the least. The most important document in the process is the Purchase & Sale Agreement, which in its standard form favors the seller. A Buyer should want to make sure that the playing field has been leveled so that there are no surprises during the stress-filled home buying process. For Sellers, it is important that the Purchase & Sale Agreement is structured in a fair way, which includes making sure that once the sale has been completed, the Seller never hears from the Buyer again. The only way to achieve that level of peace of mind is to engage the services of an experienced real estate attorney. We have represented Buyers, Sellers and Lending Institutions in over 35,000 transactions.

Can you help with car accidents?

Sarah Bennett | Sep 12, 2021

Over the course of 34 years of practice, we have handled thousands of automobile accident cases. Many cases come to us because insurance companies try to hoodwink people into settling quickly for small change. The lucky ones know enough not to accept the insurance company’s word for the value of their case. This is true when considering both the company for the car that caused the damage as well as the insurer of the car you were in when you had your accident.
