Stayed here for 3 nights as part of Bike ADK tour in August. The accommodations are beautifully rustic but comfy and clean; just perfect for a historical "camp" experience. Camp staff was great and so was our food for all three meals of the day. After biking with the fantastic guides of Bike ADK (shout out to Jim, Mike and Julienne) we relaxed with kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking and playing outdoor "old fashioned" bowling which was a blast. Camp fire one night, musical entertainment another. We had our share of rain but despite that it was a fantastic, relaxing vacation. I hope to go back again!

Great tour. Is doable for people of all ages. My wife needs to walk with a caine and she did well on the tour.

Great Camp Sagamore was a wonderful experience. Took the two hour tour and learned the history of the camp. Camp was built by William West Durant whose father Thomas Durant was one of the Gilded Age tycoons who built the Transcontinental Railroad. After having some financial trouble, Will Durant sold Great Camp Sagamore to Alfred Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilts were then the owners of the camp. Compared to most other Gilded Age estates this one is much different. It certainly has a very rustic feel to it. The main house is three stories and its architectural trademark is the red front doors. Fire places in main house were meticulously built. The logs used were also huge, like a 100 feet or more. Nice views of the lake from the house as well. There are many other unique buildings you will see including the dining hall, guest house, boat/canoe house, and perhaps best of all the bowling alley. Yes, they did let us bowl a little bit. You will also see the servants quarters and village at a different end of the property. Our guide gave us much info on the servants who worked at the estate. The property is very scenic as well. If you have time take a hiking trail around to see more of the camp. If you like seeing unique houses or estates this is definitely one to see. Tickets for tours are reasonably priced. A must see if in the Adirondacks!

Lovely and extensive tour of this historic Great Camp made me feel as if I had lived there then. Afternoons at the lake? Boating? Croquet on the lawn? Then retiring to play more adult games for the evening? Yes, please! All I needed was a dress and a hat to wear from that era! Highly recommend a visit.
