Pretty disgusting. The trash room is filled to the ceiling for weeks. Smells nasty. When complained to the concierge, she was quite condescending, told me not to throw trash there and instead go all the way to the end of the building to some other spot (I’ve no idea about this.) pretty disgusting for almost $2000 a month. They just won’t clean it, won’t apologize and show no remorse. Beyond foul! Live anywhere else if you can. It’s not worth it. It’s like a huge living standard decrease and public health and safety issue. Nobody deserves to be living amongst trash piled on for weeks, especially after paying so much rent.

EDIT: Trash chute jammed again. Trash problem continues to get worse. Heaven on earth….for pests. You’ll love this place…..if you love trash! In about 6 months living here, I’ve seen rats in pretty much every room, cockroaches, ants, etc. in addition to a bad leasing agent, they’ve charged us $15 a month for not having renters insurance even though I provided it before move in. Each month, I’m told it will be fixed and each month, there’s the charge. Also, equipment in the gym is consistently broken. Take your money elsewhere. I was asked to provide an update by Anthology. Here's my update on 5/2: The trash problems persist, often times for days. In addition to this, the pest situation is not under control with rats, cockroaches, etc. flying around the building. Beyond that, there was a break in, with management only providing an email saying to, "lock our doors." In addition, the gym renovations have not moved along at all, with multiple broken pieces of equipment. One star because the location is great.

TLDR: This is my first ever Google review. Save yourself the hassle of poor management and even worse customer service. Avoid JAMES ZARATE at any cost. If you’re desperate to live here, work with Alma. She’s the only one with a brain and some semblance of decency. Now that I’m no longer housing insecure, thanks to Anthology, I can finally write this review. My review is based on my leasing experience as a prospective tenant. First, if James Zarate is your leasing agent, RUN. He is truly clueless. Worst leasing experience of my life. I applied for an apartment, sent in the proper income verification documentation and was approved. My income was just over the threshold for qualification - yay! James sent my approval and welcome email and my lease. I SIGNED THE LEASE - the legally binding agreement between my landlord and I. Two days later, I went in to get my keys, inspect the apartment for move-in readiness, take measurement for new furniture, and close out any outstanding pre-move in items. That’s when hell broke loose. James pulled me aside and said that though I was approved and signed my lease, my application with Approve Shield (the income verification company) came back denied. I informed him that was impossible because I made over the income requirements for my unit. He said that becaus Wu was an independent contractor (like everyone else in DC) the apartment would have to use my last two w2’s as income verification even if made 20-30k less than what I’m making now, which puts me under the income requirement for my unit. HUH??? Make it make sense. Keep in mind, I only put in my 30 days notice for my apartment AFTER I got the approval email. I was hyper conscious about being housing insecure, which is why I waited until then. Still, it didn’t matter. Anthology screwed me over big time and created one of the most difficult housing situations I’ve ever been in because of their negligence. What followed this conversation was a series of in-person visits to anthology to attempt to speak with a management to rectify this situation. Several visits with my personal attorney who was convinced that we’d have a successful case against the Anthology, and several rude interactions with James. There was never an apology from James. There was never any acknowledgment of HIS mistake being that he sent the welcome letter and lease. Instead I was denied meetings with management that were made per the request of my lawyer. James refused to give me potential times to meet with Jameson, the senior manager. Then, when it was clear that I intended to take legal action, they insisted that because they never counter signed the lease, my case wouldn’t have any merit, which absolutely isn’t true. Either way, save yourself the hassle of poor management and even worse customer service. If you’re desperate to live here, work with Alma. She’s the only one with a brain and some semblance of decency.

I'm only giving it one star because the other residents I have met are what make this place bearable. Everything else is a mess. I have been dealing with an ongoing roach infestation since Dec 11th. Pest control has been coming weekly since Dec 21st but the problem is not going away. In fact I am now breaking out in a rash on both of my legs due to whatever pesticide the exterminator has been spraying constantly for the last 8 weeks. I have emailed both the Assistant Property Manager and Property Manager numerous times about this condition and asking to be let out of my lease or some sort of concession and get ignored every single time. When I went down to speak to the Assistant Property Manager two weeks ago he got me confused with another resident who had emailed him about a roach problem (This tells you that this is a building problem). I've seen a mouse in the lobby before too.He then told me he would have the units surrounding my unit treated however that has not happened. I had to leave in the middle of the night one night because I woke up and saw a bunch of them crawling around and I could not fall back asleep. What's even more ludicrous is that management does not care and expect you to just "wait it out" because "it's going to take some time to clear up". Rent in DC is far too expensive to "wait it out". I've also heard that alot of the residents are moving out because they are jacking up the rent prices for current residents. Anthology doesn't care about your health and sanity nor do they care about retaining current residents. Please save yourself the hassle and the stress and do not move here.
