The animals are clean and well cared for. The staff are all knowledgeable, kind and helpful. Absolutely wonderful experience adopting a kitten!

Yes. They offer spayed and neuter
I know they offer low cost adoptions on certain days when they are really full but I haven't heard anything about free senior adoptions
Call and bring it up with animal control
Yes we do.
Just call the shelter and they should be able to tell you
They don't right now because of covid they haven't done a clinic since last year and nothing in the foreseeable future and when you go there you have to make an appointment to even talk to them about adoptions or drop-off
Good question
They would give you advice on where to go.
I'm not an employee, but know how to check because I have gone to look for my cat. First, look on petharbor.com then call the shelter phone number. Leave a message if they don't answer. They should call you back to setup an appointment to go look at the strays and surrenders.
There is a lady that rescues rabbits. Check matsu pets on Facebook.
You can go inside and talk to a staff member about food assistance. They can help you through hard times but it is only to be used maybe about 3 times a year.
They do answer the phone but most of the time they are busy helping someone right there. They do answer when they can and try to call back voicemails.
They have an after hours drop off.
Microchip with registration is included. Also included is spay/neuter and any vaccines to make the animal current.
If they got an animal in they will get fixed if not already but I'm not sure about if the pet is already adopted out and then needing to be fixed
I think 14 is the minimum without a parent with you. But, if your parent goes with you, there pretty much isn't an age restriction. I know a 7 year old who started when he was 6. So... Yeah.
Ok thank you so much for your help
Its free
What kind of volunteering?
Free. But you should take the cat to one of the rescues like Clear Creek cat rescue or Krazy Kats
It just depends some animals are already spayed or neutered but for cats it would be somewhere around $70-$80 and for dogs it would be around the same
Yes, you can volunteer with an parent with you if your under 13.if you are 13 or older you don’t need a parent
You can volunteer at 14. You will need to contact the shelter about paid positions.
It will be sheer luck to find one at the shelter, if you're looking for a specific breed. There are facebook groups, Matsu pets is one of them, who could steer you in the right direction. They would know who are responsible breeder's, and who to avoid. They are also other rescue groups in the south central AK area.
The animal shelter's computers and phone's have been down because of a computer virus. Call 761-7501
I would call the shelter. I know they have had traps for loan before. There are groups dedicated to cat rescue in the area. I cant think of the names right now. Google, or Facebook search could find them. If you're a member of the FB groups "Matsu Valley who to use," "Matsu pets," or "Big Lake Alaska community bulletin," any of these would probably have the names.
Yes, with your parents permission. They have a form your parents have to sign.
Check out the PetHarbor app, they list out the pets they have and I think it's updated daily.
To volunteer you need to be 16.
My sister had a cat, old with something wrong with bladder control. Shelter said a vet would treat cat, if treatable, then they would put it up for adoption. If you are leaving your dog, it would help them to know. They make sure every animal interacts well with people. If they can train them, they will. But, it is not a no kill shelter.
