For a DMV, they're pretty well organized and seem to move through people pretty seamlessly. Customer service was kind and helpful.
I went in to get a California license, originally from out of state, and was probably only there for 15 minutes... Which I consider great from other DMV experiences I've had.

just go in to the office and ask for the application and they will give you a written test. All driving tests have been canceled due to covid
I just renewed my license, so not sure. Guy at the door will ask you what you're there for as they need to take your temp. And you need to register online before talking to a clerk. It makes it hard because no one answers phones just to ask a question.

Go on line to the DMV and register, write down your registration number, be sure you're driving the out of state vehicle as they will need to check the VIN number. Check on line for other IDs that you'll need.

I think you have to go in, show proof of who you are.
I just got the "Real ID" , it cost me $36 birth certificate, social security card, and proof of address(a bill with your name and address)
