Although the shelter is currently closed to visitors you can still see available dogs now being fostered in loving homes around the area by filling out an online application and arranging a visit. It's uniquely located on the property of the Jamesville Prison where a program to care for the dogs has been established with qualified population from the prison.

Wonderful experience. Ashley stayed in close contact throughout the application and adoption process. Our rescue had a fantastic foster mom too. All around happy we adopted our rescue dog.❤🐾

The girl from the facility called and told me that my references were very good, and the vet's office said give her any dog she wants. Later, she emailed me to set up a time to meet Lola. My husband, son and I went up. The foster father was very friendly and answered any questions we had. I watched the girls in the facility and knew they wouldn't let us adopt. I asked what the next step would be, and Ashley said she had several people looking at her (she didn't say that prior to our visit), and they were waiting to hear from people about the other dog we were interested in. I told my niece in Virginia that the locals here would let me adopt. She said no problem. She went to a SPCA where she lives, and now I have two beautiful pits: mother and daughter. The last I checked, both dogs were still on Petfinder. The rescue shelters in this area (CNY) would rather keep the dogs in foster care and kennels instead of giving them good, loving homes. Unfortunately, they seem to be on some kind of power trip. It is unfortunate for the animals in their care. I feel so bad for them. My husband wanted to pay $3000.00 for a dog. I said why when so many dogs already need loving homes. Too bad the people who work in these places don't feel the same way.
