After reviewing our community Facebook group for hardwood floor companies, I noticed Totta Hardwoods name mentioned multiple times by different people. I went to their website and sent in an inquiry for pricing. I was contacted the next day to set up a survey appointment and a proposal was provided promptly afterwards. The approval was sent in on 11/17/21 and (by our request) the work was completed 1/28/22 as we did not want the project to happen during the holidays. Prior to our project starting, there was a designer and Totta representative that came to the house to review finish colors (by sanding and staining 4 samples on the existing floor). This allowed us several days to look at the samples with different lighting levels and make our decision. Once the project was underway, Alex (the installer) communicated his arrival time and met to locate water shut-off and the breaker panel as well as familiarize himself with the house. We decided to stay with family during our project and Alex communicated his progress regularly. Our project consisted of refinishing existing hardwoods as well as lacing in new hardwood flooring in areas previously covered by carpet (before and after photo of dining room included). For anyone considering a hardwood floor project, I would strongly recommend Totta. It is a family business and they make you feel like your business is important to them.

The answer depends on the homeowner. Most factory-finished or prefinished floors have their own unique set of pros and cons. Positive: Prefinished hardwood flooring offers a broader range of options for hand-scraping and distressed looks that can be achieved more economically than their on-site-finished counterpart. Convenience: Time Savings: The installation of a prefinished wood floor takes 1-3 days on average and there is no dry-time or cure time to contend with. Furniture: furniture can be shuffled around the working area rather than completely removed from the house. They can then be installed in one step without creating dust or fumes. Negative: Prefinished wood floors will never be as smooth and flat overall as an onsite finished floor. The majority of prefinished hardwood has a slight lip on the ends for an easier installation. You can experience some color variations between the boards since every piece is stained separately in a factory. Manufacturers are constantly discontinuing product lines so it may be very challenging to obtain more of the same flooring down the line if you need to.
Solid wood or engineered wood with a minimum of 4mm wear layer is a great choice for homeowners with pets. Choosing a harder wood species will also minimize the wear and tear from pets. Brazilian Cherry or Ipe are both very hard exotic wood but come with a higher price tag. Hickory would be the best domestic wood choice followed by Hard Maple and White Oak. Wood floors minimize the accumulation of animal dander and hair. They are easier to clean and can be repaired vs replacing.
All of our standard finishes dry in 3 hours and are fully cured in 7 days. After the final coat is applied, please follow these guidelines: The floor can accept light traffic after 3 hours. - Furniture and appliances can be reset after 48 to 72 hours. - Pets and rugs are allowed after 7 days. - Approved hardwood floor cleaner can be used after 7 days.
Yes, Totta Hardwoods does work in Lawrence KS. We are known for our high level of craftsmanship and customer care, which has allowed us the opportunity to serve customers outside our normal 30 mile radius from our shop.
