Nice little piece of Julian history. Great view of town. It’s sobering to see all the infants and young children buried there.

Willie and I enjoy the local history of our Pioneer Cemetery.

Unfortunately this cemetery has not been taken care of at all. I really wish the historical society or the city would spend money on upkeeping it, because it is pretty awful. (At least during the summer,) overgrown weeds and unmarked paths means you have to watch every step. It is very old. The founding members of Julian are buried there, so you will see gravestones from as long ago as 100+ years. It is interesting to see from a historical perspective, but please be respectful because more modern people have been buried there as well, like as recently as this year. It is at the top of a hill so it is a hike up some dirt-and-wood steps if you go from Farmer Road but if you use A Street, you can just walk or drive up a paved road.

I used to come here as a child with my Mom. We used to bring a lunch and walk up to the top of the cemetary and sit and talk and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I love the history of this location. It is always peaceful. If you are ever in Julian go visit.
