Amazing 8km (round-trip) trail with a climactic views near the end. I recommend wearing long sleeve pants and top if you don’t want to get cuts from the overgrown trail. Some areas you can only reach by pushing yourself thru the plant overgrowth.

Take your time exploring the magical trail system. While the beach is what everyone comes for, the trail system is the real highlight of this gem.

This place was awesome , some of the biggest trees I've ever seen in my life. Take the path through the woods along the small river that leads to the ocean. So cool

Oswald West State Park is breathtaking and a treat from start to finish. Parking is easy to access and the trail is fairly short with gorgeous views along the way. The path down to the beach is a little steep and can get muddy after the rain but you can always enjoy the view by sitting at the benches at the top. The beach also has mini waterfalls to explore/take endless selfies with. If you're looking for a romantic place to elope in Oregon, this should be on your list. If you're just looking for a place to spend the day, this is your place.

Is there any place to sleep?

In your car or ....motorhome. I checked with local patrol and the main cliffs here are "safe zones" (meaning they dont mind if you stay overnite) to rest in your car. They probably dont allow people to hike out & down the main cliff and camp, cos someone got lost out here a few years ago and they had to go out looking 4 him all Winter Season, they all looked 4 him enmass..🤔 The posters about him weren't taken down until after April the following year.. .. I think (I hope- I was unable 2 verify) (I hope) he was found alive and well eventually. There is *always a chance all year of wild wind, rainy storms ..ice storms and super thick, soupy thick fog up here too...rains a lot and icy, freezing cold weather..depends on Your personal preference ... That bridge down below gets covered with thick black ice in winter.. pls drive careful on it...danger of spinouts Thanx Are You One of The Cliff Dwellers too 😁??? WooW...I usedta have the whole place up here 2 myself!!😁

Is Oswald State Park open after the recent wildfires?

Thomas Weis | Dec 6, 2020
rod rudinger | Dec 7, 2020

Can't say, but I hope not. One thing in its favor is that the area gets a lot of moisture, and it's usually damp, so that may help the trees. I have noticed from what I've seen of the reported fires, is that they tend to be along the Coast south of San Francisco, on the "inland" side of the coast ranges, and in the Cascades, or the Sierra Nevada. I was out there in late August; and the Coast was damp, The Willamette Valley, and the west side of the Cascades was pleasant; warm, but not humid. After you cross the Cascades, you're in the high desert.

Jeannine, if you've ever visited or flown over the PNW, you are already familiar with the crystal clear waters and lush green forests. If not, then you are in for a real treat. Like many Oregonians, an hour's drive to the coast (depending on weather and road conditions over the Cascade Range) is a day trip for us. The Great Pacific Northwest is home to some of the oldest old growth forests on the Pacific shores. All of the camping grounds in our State Parks are only there for one special reason. They exist in pristine areas with breathtaking views close by. We take pride in showing off the magnificence of our state. A wonderous experience awaits you and your family no matter which campgrounds you decide to stay in. There are detailed maps and photo/videos posted on easy to navigate websites that can serve your needs much better than I can in this forum.

Is there an access for folks using walkers?

Barbara Gleason | Oct 7, 2021
Brandi Greene | Oct 8, 2021

It's a 1/2 mile paved trail to the top of the beach, there are picnic tables and restrooms there. But it's a scramble over rocks to get down to the sand and some portions of the trail are quite uneven. I would not bring a family member of mine with a walker here.

Can you camp on the beach?

Noelli | Dec 7, 2017
Shann Ruggles | Dec 8, 2017

I've heard people may possibly camp on the beach *sometimes for a few hours only, but it's mostly a place where surfers go during daylight hours only. Hikers are there mostly and only during daylight hours. There is a curfew after dark between there and Seaside so beware ... It's not the people, it's the police harassment after dark that will annoy U. Parking in the car park adjacent to that beach is not tolerated after dark and the police will question *anyone after 10 pm and shoo them away after making them show their identifying paperwork and all necessary papers for operating the vehicle they are in. In fact, FYI, police harassment after dark is rampant from that area to Seaside Oregon. Police presence and inquisitions harrassing innocent public are annoyingly frequent. Suggest you camp elsewhere. There is a clean public restroom at that location. Police harrassment after dark in fact, mess up any possible enjoyment of that area and in Tolovana Beach and Arcadia
