This was probably one of the more challenging visits at Ray's. In the midst of the Mill Fire in Weed the power was shut off all the way down in Mt. Shasta. The store managed to keep open registers including card payments. The rest of the store was melting with no refrigeration, but the employees were making the most of it. The open refrigeration areas were covered with plastic to slow the loss of cold air, the employees were working late to cover a difficult time for all. I may not always like Ray's higher grocery prices, but they are an important part of our community and always give back when they can. Well done!

They have very friendly very helpful employees. They have a decent selection of food and beverages and other household needs. Unfortunately their prices are ridiculous and what's worse is their response to dumpster diving to retrieve food they throw away was to lock it. I have no respect for any grocery store that does this and I question the sanity of the owners and management. What kind of person goes out of their way to MAKE SURE food is wasted? NOT JUST WASTED BUT INTENTIONALLY KEPT OUT OF THE HANDS OF THOSE WHO REALLY NEED IT. Instead of tying it up in plastic trash bags and locking it up and dumpsters, anything still edible should just be put in boxes on a table by the dumpster and it will disappear on its own. It's not like they even have to do anything extra. Since it wouldn't need to be bagged up it would actually require less effort. They would actually save money on garbage bags, employee labor and waste disposal. It should be and actually in California soon will be a crime to do what Rays and all grocery stores in the area do with expired or imperfect food.

Store has a good selection, the employees though leave a whole lot to be desired... Encountered at least 6 employees not a single smile, not a single greeting and no thank you for shopping with us at the end. WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE! We all have a choice where to spend our money and Ray's in Mt Shasta is definitely not getting that message!

Ray's Food Place | Sep 9, 2021

Hi, we are taking additional steps to keep our customers and associates safe by requiring all teammates and guests where masks until further notice, prioritizing disinfecting and following protocols from the CDC, social distancing on the floors for one-way traffic, we have sneeze guards at check-outs and seniors and people at risk can shop from 7am-8am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thanks!

7 pm but you can still buy cheese, or deli meats that were opened earlier that day. They will not open a new package to slice for you...
