My son saw Dr Durand for chronic Lyme and Bartonellosis from late August 2020-February 2020. When we first met Dr Durand through a telehealth visit, we found him to be pleasant to speak with, and we were thankful that he finally diagnosed my son with tick-borne illnesses, as he had been ill for 8 years. He did a fairly good job of answering our initial questions, but it became clear rather quickly that Dr Durand does not appreciate input as far as one's own medical care is concerned. During my son's second visit with Dr Durand, we asked about treating the Bartonella with antibiotics that were shown to perhaps be the most effective ones based on a John's Hopkin's study from April, 2020 (we were hoping to minimize the time our son had to be on antibiotics, so we hoped that finding the most effective ones quickly might minimize any long-term health effects due to chronic antibiotic use). Dr Durand seemed absolutely fine with prescribing the two most effective antibiotics suggested in the study. However, in my son's post-appointment notes he suggested that we were being difficult. In subsequent appointments, Dr Durand became hostile when he felt that too many questions were being asked. At one point Dr Durand told my son that his questions really weren't worth his time and that he needed to end his visit. At my son's fourth appointment, Dr Durand was 20 minutes late to a 30 minute telehealth visit. After the appointment, he accused my son in his post-appointment patient notes of going over the allotted appointment time by 25 minutes, when in actuality the appointment was only 5 minutes longer than it should have been. Since tick-borne illnesses are very difficult to treat, we would occasionally ask a question through the patient portal. Dr Durand would only respond with a sentence or two, and in my son’s patient notes Dr Durand accused us of writing a “flurry” of emails. I fail to see how four questions over several months constitutes a “flurry” of emails. My son asked a question regarding having his levels of inflammation tested, and Dr Durand accused him over "overthinking" things. In another exchange, a question was asked regarding herbal supplements (which in our understanding can be a very important part of any healing plan for Bartonella and Lyme patients), and Dr Durand wanted to know specifically which supplements my son was referring to. We can't possibly know all the supplements that are helpful in treating tick-borne illnesses--it is Dr Durand's job to know that. Overall, our experience with Dr Durand was extremely negative, and my goal in writing this review is to share our experiences with other prospective Lyme and Bartonella patients so that precious time in treatment isn't wasted. (Thankfully we found an incredible Lyme-literate infectious disease MD in Massachusetts, and our son is finally feeling very hopeful and is receiving the care Dr Durand should have given him.)

Refused me care because he said I was seeing a neurologist. Said because I use a wheelchair due to lyme and have neuro lyme he will not treat. This after making me fill out an unnecessary timeline with many details and a big packet. Discrimination based on severity of disability.

It is very sad that every State in the US is lacking Lyme literate Medical Doctors. It took 6 months for an appointment with Dr. Durand but it was absolutely worth the wait! Dr. Durand is hands down the best Doctor out of the 15 or more I went to; as most Lyme patients do; and of course none of them diagnosed Lyme. Everything about my appointment was outstanding. He is extremely kind, knowledgeable and made me feel so hopeful. I had been seeing a Naturopath for the last 6 months and was like a used car salesman wanting to sell me all of his herbs. It has only been 2 wks since my visit with Dr. Durand and I already have made great improvement.

Dr.Durand specializes in Lymes, he's great. She might need different or additional antibiotics, Dr. Durand is great at figuring it all out! The joint pain is part of Lymes but Vit D helps a lot!
