Attended the Rails and Ales fund raiser for the museum. Great set up, there were breweries set up around the museum and food trucks out back. You could walk the whole place as you look and taste various beers from local breweries. It was awesome, haven't been to this place for more than 30 years. Even better than I remember. Highly recommend visiting anytime. Can't wait to bring my grandson, who'll be the 4th generation coming here to see all the trains.

I've been here here a few times. There is so much to see for any train enthusiast. They do a great job in demonstrating how trains were so important in the history of our country. Plenty of trains inside the museum and a huge train yard outside to visit. My only complaint is I wish they would allow visitors to actually step on /walk through the trains in the museum. Definitely worth checking out if you're near Lancaster and you can take a train ride across the street on the Strasburg Railroad.

We came here on a Friday afternoon in the middle of February. Which meant that we almost had the place to ourselves. Even if there were more people, it is spacious enough that a few school groups would not have mattered. While the exhibits were very well done, our two favorite things were the model train exhibit, which had the most detailed and realistic landscapes, and the exhibit where you could actually stand under a train to see the mechanics. It was too cold and windy to really spend any decent time outside, but there was plenty to see in the rail yard. If not pressed for time, we could have gone around the place a 2nd time, and learned a bunch more. For $10 per person over 12 years old, there was a lot of bang for the buck. My only issue is that it's a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the front door. The only thing that would have made this trip better was if we were there on a Saturday, or during the regular season, so that we could have taken a ride on the Strasburg Railroad. The two actually go hand in hand.

One of my favorite places to visit when in Amish country PA. If you love trains you'll love this Museum. And even if you don't you'll still find it interesting. Many different trains from all eras from steam to electric to diesel. This Museum has it all.

The 100,000-square-foot Rolling Stock Hall is climate-controlled year-round. There's an outdoor display area, as well. Roughly two-thirds of the collection is indoors; one-third outdoors.
There is one on the first floor for kids you can play with. The other one is up on the second floor in the art gallery.
The fee is $10 for adults and $8 for kids if you buy tickets at the door. If you buy tickets online along with train tickets there is a discount and tickets are $8.50.

There are Lego trains as well, surrounded by an entire Lego town!
It is my understanding that it is in storage until a proper base is built for it.
Yes you can all within the same day
its because of COVID restrictions, they should be lifting over the summer as the pandemic comes to a close

Just one room with a few layouts. They were various scales.
Yes. But it's a Museum... Not a holiday camp, there are many accommodations in the area and a summers worth of places to see.

they don't offer train rides. the strasburg rail road is the place to go for train rides.
they should be open on the 2nd.
There is lodging at the red caboose hotel about a mile past the museum. They have no affiliation with the museum. Rooms typically start at $85 per night. If there is an event going on at the railroad room rates will go up.
The railroad is open the musium is closed, but tickets for train ride must be purchased in advance online.
It depends on which car you go on, the cheapest ticket is $9 but it goes all the way up to the presidential car which cost some more
Depends on ages and interest. With little ones go to real trains firs t. Otherwise you will soend 2+ hours in childrens section and never see the real trains.
